How To Succeed In U.S Visa Interview-Useful Tips


Visa interview is one of the biggest hurdles to overcome in the process of your study abroad. Facing the interview with confidence and convincing the Visa consulate officer with appropriate answer is important. Most of the students fail to do this. I have cleared described the steps in the process of visa application in my previous article US visa application process. Here we shall see how to crack the US visa interview. The main purpose of the interview is to check the authenticity of your documents, and confirm that you are not a potential immigrant and would return to home country after you finish the studies by stating the social and economic circumstances that you are bound to in India. Successful preparation starts right from dressing properly, the attitude, body language and speaking skills. Usually you are given 1-3 minutes to speak and it is not the consular's time but yours to clearly explain the your background, purpose of going e.t.c

US visa interview preparation


1) Clothing should be formal and descent. Wear a smile on your face. But don't laugh or show your teeth.

2) Be confident while you answer. Maintain eye to eye contact with the interviewer. It is equally important to show due respect to the interviewer.

3) Vividly explain the things. Never rot the answers beforehand and just spell out them. Be lively. Be honest in answering .

4) Explain how important is the degree you are planning to take up for you in India after you return here. Explain your long term goals and how it is related to this study. Don't be brief or ambiguous.

5) As it is important to convince visa officer that you are not going to settle in US, you should explain the job prospects of the study in India. You should also explain your personal interest in selecting U.S honestly.

6) Be honest in revealing about your relations present/settled in US. It is not going to effect your chances of getting visa but confiding will land up you in more troubles. It is more important if you have first degree relatives/family members over there.

7) There is no per se provision to provide part time work to enable student to earn enough except for teaching assistant ships which is also not more than 20 hrs a week. You should convince that you are not going to depend on pert time jobs for your expenses during your studies.

8) You should have a clear view of career plans and opportunities you have in the selected field of study, so that you can speak very effectively.

9) You should have clear idea about the funds you have, to complete your studied in US. It may be your own property(parents') or other sponsors. If any sponsors, relevant proofs are required.

10) You should have a clear idea about the course curriculum (number of semesters/credits) your suitability to the course with the background in India.

11) You should say that the purpose of US study is to have global exposure along with other standard reasons and you are not going to be a potential immigrant. Even if you do not have enough other reasons, this would help you to convince the interviewer.
