What are the various trades available for Indian Air Force Technical Airmen


There are various trades divided by the organisation so that Indian Air Force can smoothly operate. Important thing to keep in mind is you can't choose trade as per your will and wish. The trade allocation will be done as per the performance in various tests conducted by Indian Air Force. If you are a diploma holder in Electronics, you may still be allotted a mechanical stream. However, here are the various trades available currently for Indian Air Force Technical tradesmen.
  • Electronic Fitter : Electronic Fitter takes care of various electronic equipment such as radio, radar, and missile etc.
  • Electrical Fitter : Electrical fitter keeps a check on the serviceability of all electrical connections of an aircraft.
  • Structures Fitter : As a Structure Fitter, you need to take care of aircraft's body or structure.
  • Propulsion Fitter : As the name suggests, Propulsion Fitter needs to maintain propulsion system of an aircraft.
  • Automobile Fitter : Automobile Fitter will have to look after heavy and light vehicles.
  • Mechanical System Fitter : Mechanical System Fitter will be responsible for overhauling and maintenance of engine and other mechanical parts of an aircraft.

What is the eligibility criteria for becoming Indian Air Force Technical Airman


In order to become a technical airman, you need to have a healthy body and sound mind. The candidate must be the citizen of India or Nepal. Age of the applicant for Airman Technical trades should be between 17 to 21 years. Candidate should have Intermediate (Plus Two) with mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, or a Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical or Electronics or Automobile or Computer Science or Instrumentation Technology or Information Technology with 50 % aggregate. One should have minimum 152.5 Cms height to apply for Airman exam. Chest should expand minimum 5 Cms when the candidate takes deep breath. One should not have any obesity problem. Candidate should have good hearing power. Also one should have moderate vision.

Selection Procedure of Technical trades Group X Airman


There will be four rounds to qualify as an airman. First round consists of written examination in English, Physics and Mathematics. Candidate has to clear English exam and Physics & Mathematics exam separately. Second round will be a physical fitness test. Candidate needs to run 1.6 Kms within 8 minutes to pass the test. There will be additional marks for the candidates who completes the 1.6 Km run within 6-7.5 minutes. Next round will be an interview conducted by the Commanding Officer of Air Force Selection Board(AFSB). Last round will be a medical examination where the medical fitness is examined.
