Eligibility and selection criteria for National Defence Academy


In National Defence Academy, there may be three wings:
1. Army wing
2. Navy wing
3. Air force wing

Eligibility Criteria


(a) Age should be in between 16 years 6 months to 19 years as of first day of the month in which course is due to commence.
(b) Qualification:
12th Class of 10+2 System of Education (or) Equivalent for Army and Physics and Mathematics are mandatory for Air Force and Navy.
(c) Marital Status must be Unmarried.
(d) Application will be received as per Union Public Service Commission notification.
(e) Likely, SSB (Service Selection Board) Date will be from September to October and January to April.
(f) Date of commencement of training will be in between January and July.
(g) Training Academies available are National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla and Pune.
(e) Duration of Training:
3 years at National Defence Academy and 1 year at Indian Military Academy (For Army cadets)
3 years at National Defence Academy and 1 year at Naval Academy (For Naval cadets)
3 years at National Defence Academy and 1 year 6 months at Air Force Aacademy Hyderabad (For Air Force cadets).

Selection Process :


Initially a written test will be conducted. Written test includes reasoning, aptitude, general English, awareness.
After that qualified candidates will be called for interview process.
The persons who were selected in the interview process will be sent to medical test.
The person who got succeed in all these steps of tests will be selected.

Physical requirements:


The physical requirements may be different for different wings of national defence academy. Here height and chest were mentioned as common physical requirement and some special requirements for air force is given below:
Height 160 cm
Chest 80 cm
Special requirements for air force
Leg length minimum is 99.00cm and maximum is 120.00 cm.
Sitting Height minimum is 81.50cm and maximum is 96.00cm
Thigh Length maximum is 64.00 cm.

There are some minor elements that can be ignored some times. They are listed below as following:
Wax (in Ears)
Deviated Nasal Septum
Hydrocele/Phimosis
Overweight/Underweight
Under sized Chest
Piles
Gynaecomastia
Tonsillitis
Varicocele

Vision Standards


Vision standards are fixed to minimum and maximum limits. These limits vary from wing to wing. The variation for the navy and air force wings are listed below:
For Naval
Uncorrected without glass is 6/6
Corrected with glass is 6/6
Limits of Myopia is -0.75
Limits of Hypermetropia is +1.5
Limits of Colour Perception is I
Binocular Vision is III
For Air force
Uncorrected without glass is 6/6, 6/9
Corrected with glass is 6/6 (only for Hypermetropia)
Limits of Myopia is Nil
Limits of Hypermetropia is +2.00 DSph
Color Vision is CPI (MLT)
Astigmatism is +0.75 Cycle
Near Vision is N-5 each eye

Following should not result on X-ray examination :


While medical examining is going on the candidate will be sent to all the required tests. In the procedure X-ray examination will be conducted. If this diagnosis results any of the below mentioned cases arise, and then the candidate should not be allowed for further procedure of selection.
1. Granulomatius disease of spine
2. Arthritis/spondylosis
3. Scoliosis more than 15 degree as measured by Cobb's Method (10 degree for Army)
4. More than mild Kyphosis/Lordosis
5. Spondylolisthesis/Spondylosis.
6. Herniated nucleus pulposes
7. Compression fracture of Vertebra
8. Sacaralisation Disease
9. Cervical ribs with demonstrable neurological or Circulatory deficit
10. Presence of Schmorl's node at more than one level
11. Atlanto-occipital, and atlanto-axial anomalies
12. Incomplete Sacaralisation Unilateral or Bilateral
13. Spinabifida other than SV 1 and LV 5
14. Any other abnormality, if so considered by specialist
