IIT-JEE 2013 question format

This article discusses about the recent notification from MHRD (Ministry for Human resource and Development) regarding no subjective level questions for IIT –JEE and to retain the same question format as the previous year. This article also discusses some in depth details about the admission to IITs.

To study in the Indian Institute of Technology is the main ambition of many students. To retain this status the IIT should equally upgrade its education as well as its admission quality so the hard work with which the candidates work and get themselves admitted in these premier institutes are justified. The following discussion is about the recent chaos in the format of the IIT-JEE's question paper for 2012.

Need for change

The need for the change in the question pattern of IIT came in the form of improvement of the quality of the candidates who apply to IIT and get an admission in it. The IIT management has kept repeating that the quality of the IIT students has to be improvised to meet the changing needs of the world economy. The change which they proposed in the IIT-JEE question paper type is to include subjective questions in the question paper along with the objective questions. This move was welcomed by several IIT including IIT Mumbai.

Problems in change

Even though the very purpose of this changes were aimed at improvising the standard and quality of the students who get an admission and enter into the IITs, the implementation of this concept at the time when the students have half prepared using the question paper format and type of the previous year is very unfortunate.

Notification issued by MHRD

The ministry for human resource development issued its first notification on IIT-JEE on August 14. According to the notification JEE-Advance which decides the admission to IITs for the year 2013, will be held on June 2 and the question paper will be of the same format as the previous year, it will have multiple-choice questions only and no subjective question for the year 2013. Students will attempt the paper in two sessions, morning and afternoon. This will give a big relief to the candidates who have been preparing half way using the previous year format.

It has been also mentioned that the difficulty level of the question paper and the marks allotted will also be the same as the previous year, the machine readable format of the answer sheets will be retained in the same form and the option for the candidates to take a copy of their answer sheet along with them will remain the same. The notification includes that even though the format of the paper has not been changed for the year 2013 and it may be change for the other preceding years after 2013.

According to the notification it has been mentioned that 1.5 lakh candidates including all the categories will be eligible from JEE- main exam to take on the JEE- Advance. In JEE- Advance the candidates who come under first 20 percentile of their respective board ranking will be eligible to the admission in IIT. For states which want to admit students based on JEE a separate ranking sheet with accordance to that particular state will be given and made use by the state in their admission. The race to win an IIT seat has started and the recent news of no change in the question pattern of the IIT-JEE has given a big relief to many students but more the question paper is predictable the more is the competition in winning the seat. I wish all the candidates to give their best and leave the rest to god.
