Online learning through massive open online courses


In this article I describe about the online learning through the massive open online courses (MOOCs) which is freely available on the internet and offered good course content. These courses offered by the top universities and institutes with the help of some companies who offer a platform for online learning. I give details of some MOOCs offering websites. I also mention MOOCs advantages and limitations.

Introduction


Technology changes our life day by day and we get any thing very easily which is not possible to get easily in past time, such as information, we get any information about any thing by internet, mobile, computer etc. This technology also changes our education system and studying way of students. Now a day's online learning become very popular and every one wants to learn through online course which is available freely on web or internet. Massive online open courses (MOOCs) are online courses which freely available for everyone on internet for enhancing their skills, knowledge and get educated from these courses.

Massive online open courses


As name suggested these course is freely open for large number of students who can learn these courses through internet. These courses free of cost but no college credit to student. These courses similar to college courses but not exactly same as the taught in college, it has some modifications according to massive students knowledge and skill level and understandable format on internet for everyone. MOOCs offers to people different subjects for free learning in short time with including advance knowledge and techniques.

MOOCs offering sites on internet


There are many top universities and institutes which offers MOOCs free of cost for open learning to students. I write about only three website as for example.
  1. edX: It is a MOOCs offering platform which is jointly founded by Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. It is purely non commercial website which offers online courses. Students needs to register them self on the website for learning MOOCs. The offering language for the courses is English. Some of MOOCs offered by edX are 3.091x: Introduction to Solid State Chemistry, CS169.1x: Software as a Service and 6.002x: Circuits and Electronics. Website URL: www.edx.org.

  2. Coursera: It is also MOOCs offering website but it is a commercial company who offers courses jointly with top most universities for revenue generating purpose. Some of universities which offer courses with coursera are Stanford University, University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania etc. Registration required and courses offered in English, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and French languages. Some course at Coursera offers academic credits also. Website URL: www.coursera.org.

  3. Udacity: It is commercial private education organization which offers MOOCs jointly with Universities. It offers courses in English language only and students required registering for learning the courses. Universities offering courses with Udacity are Stanford University, San Jose State University etc. Website URL: www.udacity.com.

Advantages of MOOCs


  1. These courses available free of cost for online learning.

  2. There is no time limitation for learning theses courses.

  3. There is no country limitation; anyone can register for learning these courses.

  4. You go anywhere, your learning will not discontinue you can learn your course from any place.

  5. There is no need of lots of college formalities for learning your course.

  6. There is not requirement of particular or relevant degrees for registering for particular courses.

Limitations of MOOCs


  1. Person should have knowledge of computer operating, internet, English language.

  2. Most of courses offered in English.

  3. Needed good speed internet connection or Wi-Fi.

  4. Most of courses not offer academic credit.

  5. Certification is also not available for all courses.
