Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur invites application for admission into M. Tech Programmes for teachers of AICTE-recognized Programmes of Degree-Level Engineering Institutions and Working Industry Professionals. History of the Institute
The first Indian Institute of Technology was formed in the month of May in 1950 at Hijli in Kharagpur. There were total 224 fresher and 42 faculty members when the first session started in August 1951. Since then it has gone a long way.The Parliament of India passed the Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur) Act declaring this Institute as of national importance on Sept. 15, 1956. It was also made an autonomous University. At present it has about 550 teachers, 1700 administrative staffs and about 9000 students in the campus. The IIT campus is situated at a distance of 5 km. from the Kharagpur railway station. Taxi and Rickshaw's are easily available to reach the Institute.
Facilities at the campus
The campus is fully residential. There are 20 Halls for the residence of the students. The staff have the Staff quarter facility. The visitors can stay in the guest house or in the residence of the student in special need. All residence and guest houses have catering facilities. Canteens within the campus serve coffee, tea, snacks and soft drinks .There are three banks inside the campus. The B. C. Roy Technology Hospital is located in the Campus. The institute also has stadium, swimming pool, library, internet, and modern Research facilities.
Detail of the Programme
The following three M. Tech programmes will be offered for the teachers of AICTE recognized programmes of Engineering Colleges & working industry professionals-
M. Tech in Electrical Engineering
M. Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering
M. Tech. in Information and Communication Technology
Features of the program
Duration of each programme will be three years.
These are weekend programmes specially for teachers of engineering colleges and professionals of industry.
Along with IIT Kharagpur the programmes will also be run in the centres Raipur, Kolkata, Port Blair and Bhubaneswar.
The programmes will adopt method of video conferencing as well as direct interaction.
The tutorials, viva, seminars will also be taken adopting the above method.
All the lectures and tutorials will be saved in form of recording in the library at all the centres for the students.
Students are not allowed to copy the above
Lab classes will be taken at the Kharagpur campus.
After the students complete three semesters ,he/she will be provided projects and supervisors..
The project work can be done by the students at their institutions. They will have to keep in touch with the supervisors. The Organizations that will sponsor need to give Lab facilities to the candidates to complete their project. The Organizations will have to allow the candidates to visit the Kharagpur campus whenever needed.
The students will be required to come to the Kharagpur campus at last weekend of every month for class tests and lab class.
Examination of mid semester and end semester will be taken on respective centres.
Number of seats
Minimum of twenty five students at IIT Kharagpur as well as each centre. If at a particular centre, the number of students does not reach the minimum level, the programme will not be offered from there.
Fee
Total fee including tuition and examination fee is 3 lakhs per student. The fees has to be paid in three installments.

Eligibility
Persons in the teaching area at engineering colleges (AICTE approved) and professionals of working industry can apply for the programme.
The candidate should have cleared B. Tech/MCA with the following specialisation with minimum 65 Percent marks.(55% for SC/ST)
Electronics and Communication- BE / B. Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Electronics Instrumentation Engineering.
Electrical Engineering–BE/B. Tech. in Electrical Engineering.
Information and Communication Technology- BE / B. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology or Electronics and Communication Engineering or MCA with Mathematics as a subject in graduation.
Selection of candidate
Selection will be made based on a written exam followed by an interview
How to apply
Application fee of Rupees 3,000/- for general and Rupees 1500 for SC/ST candidates should be paid by a Demand Draft in favour of “CEP-M. Tech" at any Nationalised bank, payable at Kharagpur.
Candidates need to register with their e-mail ID and login to the Official Website of the institute for Submitting online application. Payment details in the Demand draft need to be filled in the application.
Candidates will have to upload digital photograph and signature
After submitting online application a PDF document will be generated. Candidates need to have Adobe Reader in the computer to read this. A print out of the PDF application form should be taken out and get it forwarded by the Head of the institution.

Test and interview will be taken at IIT Khargpur.
Undertaking
