Admission 2013 to B.Sc and Diploma courses in National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences


The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences has announced its admission notification for the academic session 2013-14 to its B.Sc and Diploma courses. The details about the admission procedure to these courses has been given in this article.

National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences


The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Banglore offers number of courses in various disciplines of mental health and neuro sciences. These courses have been specifically created for patient care and provide best opportunities for academic excellence. It was established as the Lunatic Asylum earlier, but was renamed as Mental Hospital in 1925 by the government of Mysore. Later in 1974 this hospital was merged with All India Institute of Mental Health and the autonomous National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) was formed. It was given a status of the Deemed University on 14th November, 1994 by the UGC. The NIMHANS functions according to the directions of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The institute is provided with number of resources in order to undertake research works by various national and international funding organisations.

    Admission Notification 2013-14


    National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences has invited applications from the candidates for admission into the following courses:-
  • B.Sc in Nursing
  • B.Sc. in Radiography
  • B.Sc. in Anaesthesia Technology
  • Diploma in Clinical Neurophysiology Technology

  • The details about the admission procedure have been given in detail in the following paragraphs.

    B.Sc. in Nursing (4 years)


    Eligibility


    The desirous candidates must have cleared ANY ONE of the following exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with minimum 45% (40% SC/ST) aggregate marks.
  • Pre-University exam conducted by the department of Pre-University.

  • Higher secondary school certificate exam (12 year course)

  • Senior school certificate exam, Pre-degree exam (10+2)

  • An equivalent exam with 12 years of schooling from a recognized board or university.

  • Age limit : Candidate must be between 17 and 25 years of age as on 1.08.2013.

  • B.Sc in Radiography (3 years)



    Eligibility


    The desirous candidates must have cleared ANY ONE of the following exams in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and English with minimum 45% (40% SC/ST) aggregate marks.
  • Pre-University exam conducted by the department of Pre-University.
  • Equivalent exam recognized by NIMHANS, Banglore
  • Job Oriented Diploma Course from a recognized board with Diagnostic Radiography as vocational subject or any equivalent course.

  • Age limit : Candidate must be between 17 and 25 years of age as on 1.08.2013.



  • B.Sc In Anaesthesia Technology (3 years)


    Eligibility


  • The candidates must have cleared the two year pre university exam or equivalent with a science subject group and must have secured a minimum of aggregate 45% marks(40% SC/ST).

  • Age limit : Candidate must be between 17 and 25 years of age as on 1.08.2013.

  • The candidates applying to above courses would be selected on the basis of their marks obtained in the qualifying exams only and there won't be any entrance test.

    Diploma in Clinical Neurophysiology Technology (DCNT)


    This diploma course is for a period of 2 years.

    Eligibility


    The candidates must have the minimal qualification of B.Sc with Physics/Electronics/Computer Science and must have cleared the qualifying exam or diploma in Electronics/Electrical/Instrumentation/Computer (Approved by Technical education) in second class or 3 years of experience as EEG Technician after PUC. The candidate's selection in this course will be based on the performance of the candidate in the interview.

    Reservation of Seats


    The distribution of seats in the different courses available is as follows:-
    B.Sc in Nursing:- 77 seats, B.Sc in Radiography:-10 seats(4 for sponsored, 6 for private), B.Sc in Anaesthesia Technology:- 6 seats, Diploma in Clinical Neurophysiology Technology:- 6 seats (2 for sponsored).
    The reservation criteria various categories is:-
    15% of seats for SC, 7.5% of seats for ST, 27% of the seats for OBC. If the seats are not filled then they would be filled by general category candidates.

    How To Apply?


  • The candidates must fill the application form that is available online on the website of the institute-www(dot)nimhans(dot)kar(dot)nic(dot)in and submit it online too. If the application must be accompanied by enclosures then also the form must be submitted online and candidates need not send the abstract separately.

  • A candidate may apply for maximum of 3 courses only, if he fulfils all the eligibility criteria.

  • The candidates need to pay 1000/- Rs per course (Rs.750/- for SC/ST) as application fee. The payment must be made through debit card/credit card or online transfer from the ICICI, Axis and Bank of Maharashtra. Other mode of payments like DD won't be accepted.

  • Foreign candidates must submit their application through Ministry of External Affairs.

  • Sponsored candidates must submit their application online as well as send it through proper channel and should appear for the Common Entrance Test. They must produce the sponsorship certificate as prescribed in the prospectus and upload it on the online application.


  • Enclosures Required


    I and II PUC marks sheet, 10th standard marks sheet, Diploma Certificates and Caste certificate in case of SC/ST category and experience certificate (if applicable).

    Important Dates


  • Availability of online form : 15th May, 2013.

  • Last date of availability and submission of online form : 31th May, 2013

  • List of selected candidates : 1st July, 2013.

  • Course commencement : 3rd August, 2013

  • Last date of students admission : 8th August, 2013.
