Mumbai University Department of Civics & Politics PG admissions 2013

The University of Mumbai's Department of Civics & Politics has announced its admission notification for its various Post Graduate & Ph.D. degree and diploma programs for the academic year 2013-2014.

About the Department


Established in 1948, the Department of Civics and Politics offers a post graduate course in Politics of 2 years duration. Students can also take up further studies in the subject and apply for M.Phil., Ph.D. and Post Graduate Diploma programs.

Facilities & Infrastructure: The classrooms in which the courses are conducted are equipped with audio-visual systems and the Department has a seminar room with a seating capacity of 100. Both staff and students can access the Internet.

The Mumbai University campus' Jawaharlal Nehru Library is stocked with the requisite reference books, encyclopaedia and journals related civics and politics. Students can avail of lending facilities here as well as at the university's other library located at Fort.

Mumbai University Department of Civics & Politics Courses 2013


M.A. (Honours) in Politics


Duration: 2 years of 4 semesters

Eligibility: You must have a B.A. degree with minimum 2 papers in Politics. A graduate in other subjects may be admitted after clearing the change of faculty exam.

Number of seats: 150 for both M.A. Part I and M.A. Part II

What you will study: During the first year (M.A. Part I), you will have 2 compulsory papers and 2 optional papers from the selected sub-group. In the second year (M.A. Part II), you will study 2 compulsory papers and 2 optional papers from your respective sub-group.



M.Phil program


Duration: 1 ½ years

Eligibility: You must have a M.A. Politics degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST students) or equivalent grade. Admission is subject to clearing the Entrance Test.

Number of seats: 25

What you will study: You will have 3 theory papers and also will have to submit a thesis on any political issue.

Ph.D. program in Politics


Duration: Minimum 2 years after registration

Eligibility: M.Phil / NET / SET / PET in Politics / Public Administration + you should clear the interview round.

Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights


Duration: 1 year. The lectures will be held on Saturday and Sunday

Eligibility: You must be a graduate.

Number of seats: 80

What you will study: You will have 3 theory papers and will have to submit a dissertation on a topic related to human rights.

Post Graduate Diploma in International Studies


Duration: 1 year. The lectures will be held on Saturday and Sunday.

Eligibility: You must be a graduate and clear the entrance test.

Last date for submission of the application for all above courses: July 15th 2013
