Handique Girls' College is one of the leading and premier women's college of Assam & North East region. The college was established in the year 1939 in the premises of Panbazar Girls' High School. The college was started with the name "Guwahati Girls' College". It was the late Rajabala Das who's dedication towards women's education with the great support from late Radha Kanta Handique set up this college in its present campus in 1940. It got affiliation from Calcutta University in the same year. The college was named as Handique Girls' College after the name of late Radha Kanta Handique. Rajabala Das the first Principal of this college from 1939 to 1965. The present Principal of this college is Dr. Indira Bordoloi. Right now the college is affiliated under Gauhati University. The college is situated on the western bank of artificial pond Dighalipukhuri and in the heart of Guwahati city.

2. The general candidates must secure 45% marks and reserved category candidates must secure 40% marks in the respective qualifying examinations to become eligible for the admission.

The admission will be purely on merit basis for the Master of Arts in Assamese that is MA (Assamese) and is governed by admission rules and regulations. The Reservation is also as per government rules & regulations. The candidate must produce the following original certificates at the time of admission:
1. The marksheet and admit card of the last qualifying examination.
2. Two copies of recent passport-size photograph.
3. Character certificate issued from the head of the institution last studied.
4. Caste certificate from the concerned authority if applicable.
5. Gap certificate if there is any gap between year of the passing of the qualifying examination and year of admission.
6. Anti Ragging – an undertaking from the candidate as well as from guardians in the prescribed format that the candidate will not involve in any kind of ragging and it has to be submitted at the time of admission.Important Dates:
