Schools in my India should be free of punishments.

We are celebrating Independence Day on August 15 in India and I want to tell you that Independence means freedom. India got freedom in the year 1947 and now in this essay, I want to tell you what freedom I want for my country.

When I go to school on Independence Day, I listen our Principal giving a speech on Independence Day. I am very happy when our National Flag flies in the sky. I and my friends salute the flag. I also feel very happy when we get lots of chocolates on this day. And then we go back home as there is no school on this day. So I like this day very much as I can play and enjoy in my home with my friends.

We get home works in our school and sometimes our teacher punishes us when we do not do the home work. I feel very bad when our teacher punishes us. So I don't like punishments. I want to say that all the schools in our India should be free of punishments. No children should get punishments in the schools when they do not do their home work. We are learning many things in the school and we learn maths, English, Hindi, Science and GK also in our school. So sometimes when we don't do our homework, why should we get punishment. I feel like crying and going back to home when I get punishment. But you know, I cannot go home till the long bell rings. I don't like this punishment. Even when my friends and class mates get punishment for not doing their home work, I don't like this and I feel bad.

Sometimes, even when our parents shout at us for not doing home work, I don't like this. So I want that in my India all the children should not get punishment and they should not cry but they should always be happy and they should always keep smiling. I want that our country should get freedom from punishments for the children in the schools.

Jai Hind!

This is the very good thought from the student point of view and I fully agree with the author. But students should not shirk their responsibilities. Their prime aim is to obey the parents, teachers and study well. Nothing more than that. Not obeying the advise of the parents also amount to indiscipline and attracts punishment, not obeying teachers is really catch 22 situation for any student and punishment is certain. Therefore doing their given task in class and home is the prime responsibility to every student, and if that is done total freedom can be given to each child.

I think small punishments are needed for children to boost up their studies. Last week my son(8 yr old) got punishment from his teacher and that night itself he studied the multiplication table of 6 which he was trying to study and was not able to study it properly. one small punishment make him learn the table easily and he found it interesting to study it. So I think children need small small punishments to correct themselves and to study.

From the student's point of view, it may be true that free India should be free of punishments. But, punishments are needed for the growth and development of a student.

Small punishments would serve the purpose to make a student disciplined and the problem arises only when the teacher keeps something in his mind and shows it on the student with a different reason. The Principal or colleagues or parent mya be his target but poor student suffers. This leads to a problem and every one takes advantage of such things.

First of all we should keep one thing in our mind that teacher, parents and guardians are our well wishers. Sometimes, they punish us to improvement and betterment, and the punished person may feel very embarrassing, want to run away from current situation. Indians have their own way to treat their children. I also want students to be free of punishments. But sometimes miniature penalties and punishments are required for enlightenment of everyone, because the main reason of punishment is not to punish the student but also educate about discipline. But these days circumstances has been totally changed. There are lot of ways by which, we can teach or guide a student. Modern techniques like smart class with smart board; picture fiction books, projectors and computers are here to help instruct a learner.

When I was a student I was very weak in studies and once my class teacher scolded me in front of all students for not doing homework properly and giving bad performance in class. I was too much upset and felt uneasy. The same day, I went home and did my homework very well with the help of my elder sister. Next day my teacher appreciated me. I felt so proud about myself and slowly I became an average student.

My dear Pardhu Gade:
During my childhood days, I regularly had to undergo severe beating in the hands of my teachers and much more form my father. During my childhood, I used to get very sorry and sometimes angry after the beating. Now I am approaching fifty and today I understand what I have learnt from my parents and my teachers. You will also understand when you will reach my age.
Best wishes to you!

Indeed. Freedom is punishment free. I believe students shouldn't be punished at all. Education should be done in understanding and loving manner, not by hitting or punishing. When you are teaching someone and guiding them, it should be with love, because later, that person is going to learn from you and do the same as well!

Surely, Education should be given in a fair and understanding manner. Education, to a great extend is the core reason for making well mannered and well organized citizens.

But in the context of education, punishment is something that is unavoidable. India doesn't make it legal to harshly or cruelly punish any students. Most of the school bans punishment, but teachers still carry out punishment in order to create a peaceful andtime worthy class. A student even has the right to report if the teacher is behaving in rude manner.

Punishments are always found necessary for correcting ones mistakes, so that next time he will get serious by fearing the punishment. Our country has got freedom, but still our country has set forth laws and penalties. Likewise, it is generally considered that students do have freedom and is also obliged to obey the general rules and regulations of the school and maintain a disciplined and acceptable environment.

It was once said by an american novelist George Orwell, that 'I doubt whether classical education ever has been or can be successfully carried out without corporal punishment'.

I am a student and is always intended to seek more knowledge.

Education is a process with which we could learn numerous things not tapped so far. The view of the authoress has to be supported and the teachers should be capable enough to pin point the necessity of carrying out homework. After all, to motivate the pupils in such tasks should be one of their prime duties and its ultimate effect would be even more surprising, a shift in their attitudes - from non performance one to performance one. The fear element prevailing within the mindset of the children has to be alleviated so that there is a basic transformation in their attitude by carrying out their homework wholeheartedly.
The authoress has elaborated the points nicely but the schools are the right platforms where due encouragements are to be made for the innovative process to upgrade them.

I agree that schools should be free of punishment. When we are an independent nation and we celebrate Independence Day with so much pride then why don't we inculcate the spirit of freedom in our hearts? They join school to learn something new and to expand their horizons. They are not meant to be punished. Punishment can be anything from scolding to beating.

Discipline and punishment are two different entities. Teachers and parents need to discipline young ones, They should be taught the value of education. Rather than doing that, they are blindly asked to study. When they do not do that, they are punished in one or the other form which is like stealing their freedom.

Teachers and parents must bring smiles to the faces of their little ones. Instead of that, their actions make little ones cry and their punishments create wrong beliefs in them. They too learn that punishment and fear are the ways to get the work done. What they learn in early childhood, they end up living their entire lives based on it. They will then forget what stability is. They will create inner turbulence, shout, scream and punish everyone around them whenever others will fail to meet their expectations. Thus, elders must teach the young ones the right way of living.
