Joint admission for M.Sc JAM-2014 examination

Joint admission for M.Sc often called as JAM is the entrance test for degree students who are willing to do their post graduation in prestigious institute like Indian institute of technology IIT's and also to do doctoral programme phd offered in Indian institute of science and technology, Banglore. This year Jam 2014 joint entrance examination is being conducted by IIT Kanpur.

Question papers in Jam


In this year, Jam is being conducted with 7 test papers.

  1. Biological science

  2. Biotechnology

  3. Chemistry

  4. Geology

  5. Mathematics

  6. Mathematical statistics

  7. Physics


Admissions into integrated courses in IISC Banglore, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur will be through interview. So students are advised to be strong in syllabus analysis, practical subject analysis and application knowledge of subject inorder to crack interview. Since IIT's are conducting jam examination in the month of february, students have very less time to prepare for the examination, so students are advised to go through the subject well and revise important points. IIT Bhubaneswar had introduced M.Sc-Phd duel programme in chemistry, geology, maths and physics subjects and also IIT Bombay had introduced m.sc-Phd duel programme along with m.Sc-m.tech courses in physics, material sciences, nano technology from last year.

Who are qualified to write this exam


The written exam is based on subjects related to aspirents seeking admission into a specific course. There are different courses in biotechnology, chemistry, geology, maths, physics and statistics subjects. Students seeking admission into iit's must have an aggregate of 55 percent in b.sc for general and obc category, for sc and st category the aggregate must be 50%. Candidates seeking admissions into IISC must have an aggregate of 60 percent for general and obc category while it is about 50 percent for sc and st students.

Examination pattern


The time duration for each paper is 3 hours. Entrance question papers of biological sciences and biotechnology courses will be purely objective type and are multiple choice oriented questions. This year papers of chemistry, geology, maths, physics and statistics are divided into two parts in the form of paper one and paper two. The weightage of paper one is about 60% and paper two is about 40%. So students must give much importance for part one questions. This paper consists of questions which will award one mark and also two marks for correct answered students. The negative marking for one mark questions is about deduction of one third of mark and negative marking for two marks questions is about deduction of two third of marks allotted. Students who are qualified in part one paper will be eligible for their paper two correction and the final merit list will be prepared based on the cumulative score in both papers. The medium of all the papers will be only in english.

Examination schedule and fees details


The jam examination will be held on 9th of february 2014. The examination timings for biotechnology, chemistry, geology and mathematical statistics papers are from morning 9 a.m to twelve noon whereas for biological sciences, physics and maths papers the exam will commence at 2 p.m and ends at evening 5 p.m.

The fee details are as follows.

  1. For ladies category of unreserved and reserved it is about INR 750 for each paper and for both papers it costs about INR 1050.

  2. For males and trans genders of unreserved and obc it is about INR 1500 for each paper and for both papers it costs INR 2100.

  3. For sc, st and ph category the exam fee is about INR 750 for single paper and for both papers it is about INR 1050.

JAM 2014 will be held throught India in all major cities and popular towns in all states. The examination centers in andhra pradesh state are hyderabad, vijayawada, vishakapatanam, cuddapah and nellore.

Important dates of JAM-2014



  1. Online registration starts on 16th of september 2013.

  2. Last date for payment of fee through challen is 12th of october 2013.

  3. Last date for submitting applications online is 16th of october 2013.

  4. Last date for application printouts to reach the iit address specified is october 23, 2013.

  5. JAM-2014 examination will be on 9th february 2014

  6. Declaration of jam results is 16th april 2014.
