Many people have a dream of being a big shot in a corporate after doing a Management course or MBA. To do this they have to write various tests like CAT, MAT and UNMAT. Now there is another important test which is a requirement for many MBA institutes. This test is known as the Xavier Aptitude Test. This test has been introduced by the XLRI (Xavier Labor Research Institute), Jamshedpur. The application for the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) has to be done online. The exam has to be given with paper and pencil. After the admission procedure, the admit card can be downloaded from the XLRI card from 18th December 2013.
Candidates who have finished their graduation are eligible for writing the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT). Those in the final year of graduation can also apply for this test. But if so, the Graduation certificate has to be submitted as soon as one gets it, within a time limit. The first thing you should do if you prepare for a XAT exam is to understand the syllabus fully. That way you will be able to score more for the exam.
Exam in two parts
The Xavier Aptitude Test will be conducted in two parts. In the first part there are three sections and in the Second part there are two sections. The first part consists of analytical reasoning, decision making, verbal ability, logical reasoning, data interpretation and checks quantitative ability. The time allotted for the first exam is two hours and twenty minutes. The second exam focuses on essay writing, general awareness and miscellaneous subjects. You will get forty minutes to write the second exam.
Emphasis on grammar, puzzles and maths
The questions in the English language section checks your grammar, synonyms, vocabulary, antonyms, para formations , fill in the blacks and you may have to write passages. There is sub section on 'reading comprehension' too under the language section. This features puzzles, asks you questions on decision making and checks up your logical ability. You need a good command of the English language to clear this test. You need to have the knowledge of the latest things and current affairs. The exam also checks up your mathematical skills, quantitative ability. The data interpretation section checks up your reasoning, probability assessment and reasoning. Don't worry, the mathematical questions focuses on general maths of the ten plus two level. Practice the maths of this level before giving the exam. Concentrate on pie charts too. Try to improve your reasoning skills as this exam will put it to the test. The analytical reasoning checks your arithmetic reasoning too. Your observation, problem solving abilities will be tested too. You would be able to answer these questions only if you are quick and analytical.
Practice writing essays and improve general knowledge
In addition to polishing your mathematical skills, practice writing essays too as essay writing is an important part of the test. You would be asked to write an essay of 300-350 words. The essays will check your grammar and general knowledge. The general awareness section focuses on Economics, Political Science, Business Environment, Geography constitution, history etc. You would be asked questions on the latest issues worldwide.
Tips on preparation
The last date for registering is 22nd November 2013. The examination date is 5th January, 2014. The results will be announced on 31st July 2014.
