Chitrakoot Waterfalls - The Niagara Falls of India
Chitrakoot Waterfall is a famous tourist spot located 45kms west of Jagdalpur (a noted city) in the state of Chhattisgarh. It is considered as the Niagara Falls of India and is the broadest waterfall in the nation. An attempt is made to bring out the scenic beauty of the nature and to present a bird's eye view about this place.

This waterfall is about a height of 100 feet and is in the shape of a horseshoe. The breadth of the waterfall varies and is directly proportional to the water level in the river that changes drastically during monsoon as it turns wild and violent. This would be best seen during and after the monsoon preferably between July and October. As the rive Indravati touches both the banks during monsoon, the waterfall is filled with silt. In contrary, the water carries no silt and looks different during summer. Chitrakoot waterfall has a similarity with the famous Niagara Falls and literally expands the scenic horizon of Chhattisgarh.

The surroundings of Chitrakoot waterfall gives you the beautiful view of nature as one can see the flow of the Indravati river through a layered rocky plain hilly terrain and goes down towards the thickly forest-covered valley of Chitrakoot and the adjoining part being the largest waterfall. The scenery can't be explained in words and an artist or a poet can describe the feature. Its loud noise in the monsoon season is a breathe taking one.
These magnificent waterfalls would mesmerize the first time visitor and make him thrilled and it would be a thing of beauty forever. Indravati river which starts its perennial journey from the Vindhya range converts into a scenic pleasure at the point where the Chitrakoot waterfalls are located. The serene and soothing view of the waterfalls is further enhanced by the surrounding environment which takes the tourists to a different world of nature.

For many travelers, this is a place for peace and relaxation. Some people do regularly holistic therapies like Meditation in the morning hours. Aroyadham is a famous Ayurvedic Center located near the Chitrakoot Falls. For many, it is a favorite picnic spot. For photographers it is the right one to capture the beauty; for painters the best place to paint their canvas in the best possible way to portray the scenic beauty of the place. For others, it is a place of Mother Nature and takes them to a totally different world of ecstasy. How to reach
Jagdalpur is a popular city of Chhattisgarh which is connected by road and rail from important places of the country. Also, there is a proper infrastructure of hotels and lodges for the tourists. Tourists don't find any difficulty as a number of buses and taxis run between Jagadalput and Chitrakoot. Conclusion
One should be careful while walking on the rocks as they are very slippery near the waterfalls. For accommodation here, tourists can stay at the government-owned resorts or at the camps near the banks of the river. A visitor to this place would carry his happiest moment all along and would conclude that 'A thing of beauty is a joy forever'.

My appreciation to the author for bringing out this nice write on Chitrakoot the Niagara falls of India which is situated in the Chatisgarh state. Either too we were accustomed to hear this state name only for the Nazals problem or Naxals attack, and for the first time I am coming across the fact that this state is also having tourist potential and having natural locales like water falls. I think the state government should make a big plan and ask tourists to visit this place and provide proper security too. Surely after reading this article many wants to visit this place.
