How Astha Agarwal got Facebook offer

Astha Agarwal got a salary from Social media giant Facebook which could be deciphered to be valued to 2.1 Crore in Indian Rupees. You might wonder, did she faint after calculating this offer value. No. She hasn't. In fact she got similar offer from internet giant Google previously, but chose to leave that offer as per her own consideration.

Astha Agarwal's Facebook connection

Did this Jaipur girl networked via Facebook, or networked extensively to grab that offer? Actually Astha has joined Facebook in the year 2009. She had participated in the event of International Junior Science Olympiad which was held in Azerbaijan. At that event she made some friends and she opened a Facebook account after coming back home so that she can keep in touch with these friends.

Eventually she had joined IIT Bombay. Once again, while studying in the IIT Bombay, went to Facebook Headquarters in Menlo Park. This time she went to this Californian city for a summer internship.

When did this Astha received FB offer? This internship opportunity happened during May to July this year. After the end of the internship she got the offer to work for FB as a Software Engineer. But she did not take it seriously. Only recently she calculated the value of this offer she found that her offer from FB is the highest one among FB offers to other IIT Bombay students this year. She will join FB in October 2015 after she completes her eighth semester at IIT-Bombay.

Astha Agarwal's family

Astha Agarwal was born as the second daughter at a Rajasthani family. Hers is a family of engineers. Astha's father Ashok Agarwal is an executive engineer Rajasthan Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPNL). Her sister, Pavitra Agarwal is Chemical Engineer had graduated from IIT, Delhi. Astha joined IIT Bombay after securing an All India rank of 90 in IIT-JEE 2011 and chose to join the department of computer science engineering at IIT-Bombay. The confident IITian, that Astha Agarwal was, has not appeared any other company's placement exams. She is very happy to have an offer from Facebook and chose to join it because facebook has fewer employees than Google, her other prospective employer because she believes that it will be easier to make an impact through Facebook.

"What I liked about FB was that is has much less employees than Google and it is easier to make an impact with less people around," she explains why she's so happy for the offer. She also admired Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO for certain imitable traits.

Astha Agarwal schooling: Astha was a brilliant student and went to St Xavier's School in Jaipur. She secured 98% in Class 12 exam.


The success story of Astha Agarwal has just began. But it has already become an impressive Indian story of success with her ability to cut a name for herself at an age of 20. It is surely one of the most inspiring success story for students, especially IITians.
