How to apply for NBT financial grant for book promotional activities 2015-2016

The National Book Trust, India (NBT) has implemented a scheme to provide financial assistance to voluntary organizations for activities to promote books for the financial year 2015-2016. So if you are undertaking research work in relation to the book industry, conducting a book training course, hosting a book fair in your city or taking up any other such activity related to promotion of books, you can apply for this special grant. Note though that you will be expected to pay 25% of the expenditure involved for any such activity.

Eligible book promotional activities

  • Organizing book fairs or book seminars of Indian authors, publishers or booksellers on subjects which are directly related to book promotion in India.

  • Organizing book training courses on a subject directly related to book promotion.

  • Organizing annual conventions or conferences of writers, publishers, booksellers or printers.

  • Conducting research or surveys connected with the book industry.

  • Other activities which are conducive to the development of the book industry.

Eligibility criteria

  • Those who are voluntary organizations of writers, publishers and booksellers and others who are engaged in the book promotional activities which are registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 (Act XXI of 1860).

  • Those of the above who are in existence for at least 3 years.

Terms and conditions

  1. The NGO has to submit a registration certificate duly attested by the Gazetted Officer along with by-laws, aims and objectives & 3 years audited accounts, along with 3 years Income Tax returns of the organizations with the application/proposal.

  2. Prior to paying the amount, a Bond on non-judicial Stamp Paper has to be executed by the organization in respect of the grant. The organization will need to give an undertaking that it has not received any grant-in aid from any other authority of the State/Central Government & has not been applied for the same purpose from any of those authorities.

  3. An amount of 25% of the actual expenditure will need to be contributed by the organization from its own sources, failing which the proportionate amount will be refunded to NBT.

  4. The application must be routed or recommended through the office of the MP/State Government/Central Government authority bearing the requisite dispatch number and date.
