How to retrieve lost or forgotten Aadhaar card EID or UID online

Lost or misplaced your Aadhaar card? Want to retrieve the enrollment ID of the Aadhaar card? This article explains how to retrieve the lost or forgotten enrollment ID or the Unique Identification Number of the Aadhaar card and get a duplicate one. The step by step procedure is provided with the information on how to get the card either online or offline from an enrollment centre.

Introduction

The unique identity project whereby Indian citizens could get an Aadhaar card was launched by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the State of Maharashtra. The project was subsequently introduced in other States in India and through vigorous enrolment drives, many people got their Aadhaar card. The goal of the project was for a citizen to have one identity proof instead of multiple ones such as Voters ID, PAN card, etc. which needs to be shown to avail of certain services, such as opening a bank account or applying for a government scheme. You can even utilize your Aadhaar for e-filing verification of income tax.

Aadhaar thus became a Unique Identification Number (UID) to quickly & easily avail of various government benefits, such as those given through the rural health mission program and subsidies for LPG

So what happens if you lose your Aadhaar? Not to worry! The Unique Identification Authority of India has made provisions for those who have misplaced their Aadhaar enrolment slip, lost their Aadhaar or wish to download their e-Aadhaar. If you are one of these, you have the option to get the Aadhaar either via internet access or by visiting an Aadhaar enrolment centre in your region.

How to get e-Aadhaar online

Here's a step by step guidance:

Now a days getting the duplicate card or making corrections to the original Aadhaar card has been made easy. In Hyderabad there are e seva and Mee seva centers which the government has authorized to make corrections to the existing cards and also incorporate any new information in that. For example when the original card was issued the child would have been minor and now with so many years passed the child would have become major and that kind of information has to be updated and corrected. And also in some cases the names are mentioned vice versa, That means main name is in the back and house name is in the front.
