Plus one admission- WGPA Calculation an overview

Department of higher secondary education is allocating seats in plus one courses purely based on the merit. The merit of students is decided on the basis of rank lists prepared by directorate of higher secondary admission. For this, they have adopted a centralized method namely WGPA (Weighted Grade Point Average). As WGPA is the primary factor of deciding ranks of candidates, everyone may want to know how this WGPA is calculated. Here we will let you know how to calculate WGPA in Kerala plus one admission.

Simply we can put WGPA= ((TGP + GSW) / (TS + TW)) + ((BP-MP)/10). Where, TGP: Total Grade Point, GSW: total Grade value of Subjects for which Weightage is given, BP: Bonus Point, MP: Minus Point, TS: Total number of Subject, TSW: Total number of Subjects for which Weightage is given.

Total Grade point is the sum of grade points a student gets in each subject. Grade point for subject is as follows: A+=9, A=8, B+=7, B=6, C+=5, C=4, D+=3. For example if a student get A+ in all ten subjects then his/ her TGP will be 90. GSW is the sum of grade points of the subjects for which weightage is given. To get the subjects which has weightage you can refer HSCAP prospectus here on this link http://117.239.77.34/prospectus2015/prospectusmain.pdf. Bonus point is added only if you are eligible for it. You can refer paragraph 11 in the prospectus to know the bonus point and who are eligible to get it. You can check there whether you are eligible to get bonus point. Minus point is required to reduce if you are passed your eligibility examination in second time, third and on so on. You can refer Paragraph 12 in prospectus for to get details. TS= Total number of subject a student appeared in the SSLC examination and TSW is total number of subjects which has weightage is given. Rank lists of plus one admission prepared on the basis of this WGPA. If any students get equal WGPA then their rank will be decided on the basis of some criteria, which can be read at Paragraph 17 in the prospectus.
