Aspiring to join IITs, NITs, IIITs and other government-funded institutes in India after JEE 2015? This article provides information on how to get admission to these institutes through the registration process via the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSSA) website. Details of the eligibility requirements and schedule of dates of the seat allocation process are provided in this article.
Those who secured a rank in JEE (Main) 2015 and those who qualified through JEE (Advanced) 2015 can now aspire to gain entry into IITs, NITs, IIITs and other government-funded institutes (GFTIs) through the registration process set up through the common portal of JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority).
JoSAA has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India with the aim to manage & regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 87 institutes for the academic year 2015-2016. Thus, admission to all the academic programs offered by these institutes will be made through a single process. It is important to note that those candidates who do not register within the specified time will be unable to seek admission for this academic year.
JoSSA process: How it works
There are in all 4 rounds of seat allocation. There will be no spot round at all. You will get just one single opportunity for online registration & choice-filling for all the academic programs under NITs, IIITs, other GFTIs, IITs and ISM.
The first 3 rounds will involve all the participating Institutes, namely NITs, IIITs, other GFTIs, IITs and ISM.
The fourth round will be only for NIT + System along with preparatory course for IIT + System. On completion of the first round of counselling, you will have 3 options of freeze, float and slide. Out of these, if you select the freeze option selected is freeze, then you will not be considered for the next round of counselling. However, if you select the float or slide option, then you will be considered for the further round of counselling.
In case you are allocated a seat in NIT + System, you must report at the Reporting Centre for NIT + System. If you are allocated a seat in IIT + System, then you should report at the Reporting Centres of IIT + System.
In the subsequent round, if you are allocated a seat in IITs+ System, having been allocate in NIT + System in the previous round, then you must report at the IIT + Reporting Centres or vice versa. Similarly, in the subsequent round, if you are allocated a seat in the NIITs + System, having been allocated in IIT + System in the previous round, then you must report at the NIIT + Reporting Centre. If you do not report at the reporting centre in this round, then you will lose both the seats.
Qualifying exams and corresponding admitting institutes
Through JEE (Advanced) 2015, admitting institutes are IITs and ISM .
Through JEE (Main) 2015 Paper-1 (B.E. / B.Tech.), admitting institutes are NITs, IIITs and Other-GFTIs.
Through JEE (Main) 2015 Paper-2 (B.Arch. / B. Planning), admitting institutes are NITs, IIITs and Other-GFTIs.

How many options can be filled in JoSAA seat allocation? I think there will be more than 200 options as on needs to check for IIT, NIT, IIIT and GFTIs. I visited official websites http://josaa2015.in/ and http://jointseatallocationauthority.in/. Got the information that I can fill as many choices as I want. Is this True? If it's true then I have some more questions: 1. How to register for JoSSA? 2. It is essential to register or I will be directly registered through JEE Main 2015. 3. How to take admission in NITs?
