  • Do not respond to phishing emails asking for personal data or bank information such as bank account number, user name, login password, credit card details etc. Remember banks never ask for such information. If you proceed further as per these types of phishing emails then you will handover all your sensitive information to the fraudsters who will leave you with no penny in your account.

  • Do not get trapped by scammers introducing themselves as bank or insurance company's representative over phone. They will first lure you with some rewards being offered to you then ask about bank details or policy details to receive rewards. Do not reveal your personal data related to bank account or insurance policies in front of them; you can ignore these types of fake calls and inform respective bank or insurance company about it.

  • Do not get directed to your bank website address through any suspicious mail, instead whenever required access your bank website by typing on the address bar of browser.

  • Do not store your confidential information such as credit or debit cards' details, bank account details, pin numbers, passwords etc in mail or phone as they might be accessed by hackers with the help of virus spread through an attachment in a suspicious mail sent from them. Suggest not to open attachments from these mails.

  • Avoid using public wi-fi for online transactions or online shopping. Always remember to log off after online work is over, especially when public network accessed or you were sitting in cyber café.

  • Be safe in shopping malls and restaurants with secure usage of credit cards / debit cards. Be present at the time of transactions and observe the card swipe action of person at the counter to avoid card skimming. Skimming is the process of illicitly obtained or copied information from the magnetic strip of credit or debit cards. Card skimming is carried with the help of a very small scanner attached to the card reader which records all personal information from the cards when swiped. One can retrieve data from this scanner later to clone cards and withdraw money from your account or do online frauds.

  • Always do online transactions or online shopping from a trusted website only. These websites are encrypted and they protect our personal data from hackers. This security can be ensured with the symbol of lock before URL and start of a URL with "https:"

  • Never throw your bills or receipts such as ATM receipts, restaurant bills, boarding pass etc without shredding. It is advisable to cut off these types of papers which contain your personal information like credit card number and bank account number. In case credit or debit cards get renewed or upgraded, do not throw it like that but you can cut it diagonally while disposing to avoid the misuse of cards if caught in wrong hands.
