Basic things to know for studying abroad

Once you are determined to study abroad after 12th Grade, you need to take SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) which is an entrance test conducted by most of the universities in the U.S, Canada, and other countries. This is a standardized test to measure your skills in the areas of Critical Reading, Maths, and Writing. Students who are in Class 11 and 12 can take this test and submit their scores to the colleges during the application process. You need to score at least 1700+ out of 2400 for getting admission in good colleges/universities. In addition to your SAT score, the foreign colleges/universities even consider your high school GPA, academic transcript, letters of recommendation (LoR), interview and personal essays.

Meanwhile, you need to apply for an Indian passport and subsequently go for your Visa processing after getting admission into a foreign university/college and get done with all the required formalities for your study abroad programme.

Though the article mentions the need for a passport it does not explicitly mention that it is mandatory to have a passport as identity proof, especially if you are an Indian student appearing for SAT. It is the only valid identification that is accepted.

In fact, Indians appearing for IELTS, GMAT, TOEFL and GRE require a valid passport, even at the time of registration for the test/exam. So, students must get a passport first, before they register for the test(s).
