Dr. A.P.J. The 'President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Postgraduate Fellowship' was announced in his honor by USF. Starting with the year 2016-17, one award is to be offered each academic year to an Indian student who has graduated or is about to graduate from an Indian university and intends to pursue Ph.D. program at USF in the eligible fields of study. The deadline to apply for the award for the year 2016-17 was March 1, 2016.

The fellowship is offered to an Indian student who seeks pursuing Ph.D. degree program at USF in following subjects/disciplines -

  5. Cell Biology, Microbiology & Molecular Biology.
  6. Integrative Biology.

Fellowship benefits

  • Waiver of tuition fee up to 4 years.
  • A stipend @ $2,000 per month for up to nine months ( total $18,000) covering the fall and spring semesters. The total duration of the stipend will be up to 4 years. During the first year the Provost's office will pay a nine month stipend and during the remaining three years the concerned department will contribute by providing teaching/research assistantship to the student.
  • Other costs like airfare and housing at USF etc. will have to be arranged by the awardee.
  • The admitted students have to comply with all USF regulations, processes and procedures and all applicable law.

How to apply

  • The candidates are required to submit a USF graduate application at - https://secure.vzcollegeapp.com/usf/default.aspx?cid=87<id=1 and establish a university ID number at the USF graduate admissions portal.
  • An application fee of $30 is required to be paid online by a credit card or e-check while filling the graduate application.
  • After completion of the online application in all respects, the candidates are required to scan following documents and mail the same to KalamFellowship@usf.edu
  1. A letter describing intended area of study, academic success and expression of interest.
  2. Curriculum vitae (CV).
  3. Statement of research and evidence of scholarly activity.
  4. Three letters of recommendation on academic and/or professional letterhead

Selection

Applications for award of fellowships are made to the USF Word (http://www.usf.edu/world/) and final decision is taken by the same. Candidates having exceptional academic credentials and a passion for the STEM fields of study are considered for the award. The candidates must demonstrate their professional contributions and achievements in the field of intended study.
