Objective of the programme

The Economic Departments at the University of Namur and the Catholic University of Louvain jointly organize a one-year Post Graduate program in International and Development Economics. The students will obtain Advanced Master's Degree in International and Development Economics on completion. The objective of the programme is to train students in International and Development Economics and help them to become qualified workers in the field of economic development in the context of an integrated world economy. The courses taught are structured around two main themes, viz., macro-economic policies and economic development including its institutional aspects.

Purpose of study

The programme offered by the University of Namur enables the students to:
  • Acquire international standards of economic analysis and increase their abilities in the particular field;
  • Confront their personal experience with foreign perceptions of the world economy and of their countries;
  • Gain the maturity needed to sharpen their professional or research objectives.

Learning outcomes

At the end of their training, the students will be in a position to:
  • Design and implement innovative programs of economics and human development, inspired by a rigorous economic analysis and adapted both to local aspirations and to international constraints;

  • Understand and assess the models and methods used by international organizations, foreign governments and consultants in development assistance and international economic relations;

  • Play an educational role, by clarifying to local decision-makers and to the general public the rationale and usefulness of economic reforms.

Necessary details

It is a full-time programme of 1 year duration. The medium of instruction is English. The Tuition fee is 835 euro per year for international students. In addition, the students of non-EU countries have to bear additional fees between 2000 to 4000 euros. It is a 60 credit programme.

Eligibility for admission

International applicants must have either:
  • A university graduate degree obtained after 5 years of university education
  • A university graduate degree obtained after 4 years of university education and 2 years at least of professional experience
  • Previous work experience is not essential
  • Applicants with strong background in economics will be considered for admission

Application deadlines

  • 30th April for students with a non-European degree

  • 15th August for students with a European degree
