Admissions 2016 to General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) course in WB Govt. Nursing Training Schools

Good news to the candidates willing to build their future career in nursing as admission notification for 3 years GNM training course for the session of 2016 – 2019 has been published to take admission to GNM in various Nursing Training Schools under the Government of West Bengal. The Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of WB wants filled in applications for admission to GNM course 2016 – 2019. The academic session of the GNM course is from September 2016 to August 2019.

Numbers of seats

There are total 1000 and 70 numbers seats for female and male candidates respectively for the 2016 GNM training in all Nursing Training Schools under WB Govt. which may be changed later. However, 22%, 6%, 10%, 7%, 2% and 2.5% seats are reserved for the candidates belong to SC, ST, OBC – Cat A, OBC – Cat B, female applicants under Orphanages and Inmates of Destitute Homes recognized by Social Welfare department of WB Govt. and lady Civil Defence volunteers under Home (Civil Defence) department of WB Govt. respectively.

Who can apply

Candidates who are interested to pursue 2016 – 2019 GNM training course in West Bengal must have the following eligibility criteria:
  1. Aspirants should be passed 10+2 standard Higher Secondary examination of WBCHS or any other equivalent exam of any recognized council / board.
  2. Age of the candidates must fall between 17 – 27 years as on 01.01.2016.
  3. Candidates should be Indian citizens and residents of the state of WB permanently as well as uninterruptedly for a period of minimum 5 years preceding the submission date of their applications.
  4. Candidates should be able to read, write and speak in either Bengali or Nepali.

Selection procedure

Selection of candidates for 2016 General Nursing & Midwifery training course will be based on the total marks scored by the candidates in their compulsory subjects of 10+2 standard examination. Compulsory subjects indicate two Language subjects out of which English should be one and other best three elective subjects except Environmental Studies.

Preliminarily selected candidates will be called for a medical test on a specific date which will be informed later. In case, any candidates fail to appear for the test on scheduled time, his / her candidature will be cancelled. Medically fit candidates will be admitted as per the serial number of the panel.

Accommodation and fees

Selected candidates will be undergone a training period as day-scholar for the first six months and during that time period they have to arrange their own accommodation at their own cost. After this period hostel accommodation will be provided. They have to pay messing charge as per the concerned training school authority. Also, Rs. 12/- per month has to be paid by the successful candidates for establishment charge.

Duly filled in application along with following documents should be sent to the respective institution as mentioned below through speed post / registered post / courier.

Documents required for application

Following documents must be furnished along with the applications otherwise the application will be rejected.
  • Self-attested photocopy of mark sheet of Higher Secondary Examination or equivalent.
  • Self-attested photocopy of admit card / certificate of Madhyamik (10th std.) or eqv. exam.
  • Residential Certificate in original.
  • Self-attested photocopy of Caste Certificate ( SC / ST / OBC-A / OBC-B), if applicable.
  • One recent passport sized colored self-attested photograph affixed on the space provided in application form.
  • One self-addressed envelope with requisite postal stamps pasted and placed rightly.

Important date

Applications along with all supporting documents should be received by the respective institution latest by 14th June 2016. Any applications if received beyond the said date will not be considered.
