Duration

The B.Sc.(Hons) Computer Games Design and Programming course course is full time one of 3 years duration, beginning in September 2016.

What you will learn

During the first year of the B.Sc.(Hons) Computer Games Design and Programming course you will get a clear cut understanding of various 3D modelling techniques. The learning modules will also incorporate the basics of programming, engine development & rapid games prototyping.

In the second year of the course, you will work with others on a project as a member of a development team. The learning modules will include advanced engine scripting and help you to develop your games programming skills in a variety of languages such as C++ and C#.

In the third and final year you will work as a senior or lead member of the collaborative development team. It will help you develop skills in the specific option you select, combined with working on both an individual project as well as a group project.

The learning modules and assessment are as follows:
  1. Level 4 incorporates modules which combine lectures with informal lab tutorials that involves a lot of interaction between the students and the faculty, with minimal traditional formal classroom lectures. It is at this level that the foundation is established for further learning modules of the higher levels.

    Assessment is in the form of written reports that detail the work done on practical projects.

  2. Level 5 also includes informal tutorials, but alongside these you will encouraged to seek out your own sources of research material. Video tutorials, lab sessions and assignment workshops will all form part of this level. Other than technical skills, working in a team and learning to meet deadlines will be developed.

    Assessment includes written reports and practical work, group work and presentations.


  3. Level 6 will incorporate modules that include tutor support by a Project Supervisor, while at the same time encouraging you self-guided study.

    Assessment at this level is done of an Individual Games Technology project and of an Individual Games Technology portfolio.

Eligibility requirements

  1. A typical 280 UCAS points with a minimum of 240 points from 3X6 units and 40 from either key skills or AS levels.

  2. English language requirements include an IELTS score of 6.0.

  3. Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC): DMM (Distinction, Merit, Merit Grade).

Course fee and scholarships

The course fee is £10,600 per year. The New Merit Scholarship of £1,000 is available to Indian students enrolling for the first time in September 2016. Further, the New Undergraduate Progression Scholarship of up to £2,000 will be awarded annually on the basis of performance across the full academic year.
