How to apply online for 2016 GOI Pre-Matric & Post-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

The Department of Disability Affairs under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment of Govt. of India had introduced two schemes named Pre-Matric Scholarship and Post-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities in the financial year of 2014 - 2015. In continuation to that online applications are being invited from the students of class IX to X and class XI to Master's degree / Diploma level for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships respectively for this year too.

Goal of the schemes

The goal of the scholarships is to provide assistant to the students with disabilities for their study in class IX, X, XI, XII, diploma / certificate courses after matriculation, bachelor as well as master degree courses conducted by the universities recognized by UGC so that their study cannot be abandoned suddenly and they can be settled in respectful positions.



Basic features

Courses covered

  1. Pre-Matric Scholarship is awarded to the students with Disabilities of class IX and X.
  2. Post-Matric Scholarship is awarded to the students with Disabilities of class XI to Master's degree or Diploma level.

Nos. of awardees

  • Total 46,000 numbers of students will be awarded Pre-Matric Scholarship.
  • In case of Post-Matric Scholarship, it will be sanctioned for 16,500 numbers of students.

Scholarships value

  1. Pre-Matric Scholarships: Day scholars will obtain Rs. 350/- as Monthly Maintenance Allowance whereas hostelers will get Rs. 600/- for the same. In addition, other allowances like transport allowance, reader allowance etc. and facilities of book grant will be provided under this scheme.
  2. Post-Matric Scholarships: Day scholars will obtain Rs. 230/- - Rs. 550/- and hostelers will get Rs. 380/- - Rs. 1200/- depending upon the courses like non-diploma, postgraduate or degree / diploma courses in professional fields etc. Additionally book grant, tuition fees, allowances etc. will also be provided under this scheme.

Who are eligible for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships

  1. Only Indians are entitled for the scholarship.
  2. Candidates must have at least 40% disability certified by competent medical authority of the state Governments / UTs.
  3. Parents' / guardians' income should not be more than Rs. 2,00,000/- and 2,50,000/- per year from all sources for Pre-Matric Scholarship and Post-Matric Scholarship respectively.
  4. Maximum two disabled children of same parents will be admissible for the scheme.
  5. Pre-Matric Scholarships: Applicants must be full time students of regular course of class IX or X in a Government school or Government / Central / State Board of Secondary Education recognized school.
  6. Post-Matric Scholarships: Applicants must be passed Matriculation or Higher Secondary or any higher exam of any recognized University or Board of Secondary Education and presently students of all recognized post-matriculation or post-secondary courses in recognized institutions

How to apply

Only online applications will be accepted for this scheme. Applicants should visit National Scholarship Portal at www.scholarships.gov.in for registration of online applications. If aspirants are new to the website, should register themselves otherwise login to apply.



Deadline of application

Candidates willing to apply should register applications online for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships scheme 2016 within 31st August 2016.
