How to submit entry in the NFDC Swachh Bharat short film festival competition

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Swachh Bharat Campaign on 2nd October 2014 at the Rajghat, New Delhi with an aim to make India clean. It was intended that every citizen of India will participate equally to keep the nation clean. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India has announced 'Swachh Bharat short film festival' in the form a competition of short films to be held on 2nd October 2016 at the Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi, which is open to all interested individuals.


The submission deadline for the contest is 10.09.2016.


There will be following awards in the festival -
  • Best Film - 1 award of a cash prize of Rs. 10 Lakh and a certificate.
  • Second Best Category Films - 3 awards of cash prizes Rs. 5 Lakh each.
  • Third Best Category Films - 6 awards of cash prizes Rs. 2 Lakh each.

Important points

  1. Only short film of duration not more than 3 min (180 secs) can be submitted as entries.
  2. The films should be shot in HD format.
  3. There is no entry fee for submissions.
  4. The language of the films can be any of the listed official languages of India. However, there should be subtitles in English.
  5. The film should have been produced within last one year preceding the event date i.e. not before 01.10.2015.
  6. The materials received as competition entry or their part can be used by the Film Festival for advertising purposes and for promoting the Swachh Bharat Mission.
  7. The contents of the short films should be suitable for universal viewing.
  8. The applicants will be informed within one week of the announcement of the final film selection through a letter in case the film has not been selected.

How to submit competition entry

  • Visit the website -
  • Download the application form either in pdf or word format.
  • Fill in the application form sought information i.e. Film Title, Duration (min), Synopsis (200 words), Language, Year of production, Format, Availability i.e. in DVD or in USB drive and the filmmakers information like Applicant's role i.e. whether director or producer, Applicant's name, Address, Email, Mobile number, Applicant's profile, Director's statement and Additional information, if any etc. At the end of the application form, the applicant has to put his/her signature after accepting the terms and conditions of the festival and giving permission/consent to show the film at Swachh Bharat Short Film Festival 2016 to take place on Oct 2 2016 and allowing the Swachh Bharat Short Film Festival to use parts of my films for promotional purposes.
  • Email the completed application form to
  • The applicants have to email the filmmaker's photograph (300 dpi) and film stills in digital format also.
  • Send the hard copy of the application form and DVD /USB Drive containing the competition entry short film to the following address -

  • The envelope should be clearly marked with -'For cultural use only' and 'Without commercial value'.
  • The shipping cost of the DVD /USB DRIVE and/or material has to be borne by the applicants.
  • The DVD /USB DRIVE and/or Material will not be returned to the applicants.

This short film festival results were supposed to be published by yesterday or today, but still no updates about it . According to a newspaper article Over 4,000 entries were received by the National Film Development Council (NFDC) for the 'Swachh Bharat' short film festival and top 10 filmmakers were supposed to get cash awards. To be precise total entries were 4346. Website of NFDC declared that they will notify filmmakers by last week of September 2016 and will likely announce their winners by 1st October 2016. But no updates till now. Some rumors are being spread that because of the terrorist attacks this short film festival stands cancelled. For more information one can visit the NFDC's official website.

Some of the news channels on TV broadcast the winners of Swachh Bharat Short Film Festival, organised by NFDC. Some daily newspapers at Delhi also published the names of winners of the said competition. According to a News paper a filmmaker Katyayan Shivpuri from Maharastra won the first prize a sum of Rs. 10,00000/-, for his creation "Murga". For the second prize 3 winners were selected, Shudhanshu Shrama, KVK Kumar and Akshay Danavale for their films Nanha Doot, Chembuku Moodindi and Sarkarmi Rati Wadho respectively. The prize money for second position was Rs. 600000/- each. Six more entries were awarded the third prize.

It is surprising that news channels and papers are declaring the results but the official website of NFDC has nothing to show in this regard. Even participants also did't receive any mail regarding selection or rejection of their entries.

Finally the results were published on the website of nfdc As said earlier winners were announced. Today 10.09.2016 there was a function named "Swachhagraha" at Cyber City Convention Center , Off Hitex road , Kondapur, Hyderabad, Telangana. The participants of SBSFF and many dignities were invited to this program, where screening of all winner movies were done. Sri Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for urban development and info and broadcasting and Sri K T Rama Rao, Minister for IT &municipal administration were the main faces of this program.

The screening of these movies will be done in other parts of the country too.
