Best tourist places in Western India - Baroda,Mumbai,Nasik and Shirdi

In western india there are many tourist destinations such as Baroda, Surat, Ahmadabad, Somnath temple, Munbai, Nasik and Shirdi. Some are pilgrimage places and others are tourist attractions. You may plan during your holidays to visit these places with your family to enjoy the trip.

Baroda tourist destinations

I stayed in Baroda from 1992-1995 for a period of 4 years. It is a very beautiful city having many attractions such as Shiyaji garden, Nimeta garden, Ajwa lake, Ajwa lake garden. There is a musical fountain in the Ajwa lake garden. These all three gardens are very big and require half a day to visit each. In Shiyaji garden there are many things such as planetarium, toy train, zoo, museum and beautiful gardens. Many times you will find film shooting in those gardens.

Baroda is a very developed city having so many industries (GIDC), military units, ONGC Township, cricket stadium, Alkapuri is the most posh area and having many shopping malls. Garba is local dance here and celebrated during navratri for 9 days in the nights at more than 100 places in the city. Dhokala, sreekhand, and Gujarati thali are some famous foods here. Padra is famous for shoes and it 15 km from here. Pawagarh Devi temple is 60 km from here, people come from Ahmadabad and Baroda for the darshan of Pawagarh Devi.

Bombay tourist destinations

Bombay-Nasik-Shirdi--I visited Mumbai 4 times, latest in 2015. It is the financial capital of India and famous for Hindi film industry. There are many beautiful places to see in Mumbai such as Juhu beach, Gateway of India, Elephanta caves, museums, Kamla Nehru park, Mumbai film city, Chowpathy beach, Marine drive, Mumbadevi temple, Haji Ali dargah, etc. There is a special city bus service for city darshan.

How to reach-Mumbai is well connected by air, train and road. There are 3 railway stations from where trains come and go to various part of India. They are 1. Dadar 2. Mumbai central 3. Mumbai VT (New name CST-Chatrapati Shivaji terminal). There are two airports 1. Domestic (Santa Cruz) 2. International in Andheri East.


It is 185 km from Mumbai. It is well connected by road, train and air. It has two airports 1. Ozar airport 2. Gandhi nagar airport.

Trimbkeshwar Jyotirling temple is famous for the remedy of kal-sarpdosh and pinddan. River Godavari originates from here only from a hill and a small stream flows down and forms the amrit kund, where people take bath during visit and Kumbh mela.The stream goes underground and appears in Trimbkeshwar temple then goes further and becomes river Godaveri. Godavari flows thorough Maharastra, Telangana,Andhra Pradesh and finally meets ocean in the bay of Bengal.

There are many destinations to visit, including Tapovan, Sita Gufaa, Gargoti ,Museum, Pandav Leni, Kalaram Temple, Anjaneri Parvat Phalke Smarak, etc.

Places to visit near Nasik is Shirdi, Shani-singhnapur.



It is 85 km from Nasik. It is famous for Sai baba temple. I visited this holy place in Oct. 2010 and found it very pleasant. It takes 2-3 hours for darshan. Rooms and food facilities are there in the temple for free. Good hotels and a market is also there. From Mumbai, the tourist bus service is there, namely, Mumbai-Nasik-Shirdi service. Other places to see in Shirdi is the Dixit Wada museum which contains the white and black photographs of Sai baba. Tourist places near Shirdi are Nasik and Ajanta-Ellora caves.
