Few Known Reasons for Stop-Payment on Cheque

There are few known reasons why a person requests for stop payment on the cheque issued. If a buyer finds the product purchased is a defective one or if the product is not the one he / she thought of buying. And it so happens that the buyer cannot contact the seller.

How to Write a Request Letter to Stop Payment of Cheque

You can write the letter on an A4 size paper or on any blank (white) paper. On the top left write your name and contact details.

You can download a template to request stop payment from the bank.

Alternatively, you may use the following sample to prepare your own letter:

Your name as in the bank records
Your complete postal address
Your mobile number or primary phone number.
email id: if you have one. If you don't have one, don't worry, it's not compulsory.

Date: Write the date in dd/mm/yyyy format

Sub: Request for Stop-payment on the cheque issued - Reg.

I hold an SB account with your branch and my account no. is _________ (write your savings bank a/c no. in the blank space). I have issued a cheque bearing no. _______ (write the cheque number in the blank space) payable to __________ (write the name of the payee i.e on whose name the cheque was issued) for an amount of Rs._________ (write the amount in the blank space).

I would request you to stop payment on the above-mentioned cheque and no payment should be made on the cheque mentioned above.

Request you to confirm the same either through an SMS alert or through a phone call to the number given above.
