After demonetization and move towards the digital payment, Government has been working hard in order to move most of the transactions to the digital platform either by using digital wallets, e-wallets, UPI, USSD and about to come AEPS. This will be a major move toward the digital movement that India and Prime Minister is looking for in the future.

All the transactions need to made digital except maybe you can carry for your small purchase the physical currency. This is a move towards less cash-carry in your pocket and making use of the digital payment gateway for most of the payments that can be done digitally.

In a move towards the digital payments, PM Narendra Modi today has launched UPI-based digital payment app "BHIM"(named after the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar) known as Bharat Interface for Money. This app will help people encourage and move towards digital transactions and with increase in participation towards the schemes that Government has started for incentives to be provided to the customer and merchant via Lucky Grahak Yojana (For retail consumers) and in Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana (For small businesses).

This is very simple app with less 2 MB space requirement on your phone. Using this app you can send and receive instantly and you can also use the QR code scanner to make the payment. This app uses the UPI interface for the transaction and available 24 /7 for transaction to made.

Once you have downloaded the please follow the instructions to start using payment.

  1. First screen once you have installed, you need to choose the Language English and Hindi. For now there are only two language options, however, going forward you may see more language to be added to make localize. ? Next
  2. Ask for access to phone SMS and verify it with UPI.
  3. Ask for permission to allow the app to make and manage phone calls
  4. Allowing the app to send and view SMS messages : Once you have provided the standard permission, if you have dual sim then it will ask you select the SIM that you have registered with your bank. Select the sim or number that you have provided to the bank and registered to. (This is the number on which you receive your OTP, SMS, or other information for any transaction that happens in your account)
  5. App will now send an SMS to the SIM for verification
  6. Once verified you will need to create your pass code and then confirm the pass code
  7. Now you need to select your Bank from the complete list of 31 banks present. Almost all the banks are present with the list and more banks will be added in future : Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Axis Bank, Bank Of Baroda, Bank Of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Catholic Syrian Bank, Central Bank Of India, DCB Bank, Dena Bank, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, IDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, IndusInd Bank, Karnataka Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Oriental Bank, Punjab National Bank, RBL , South Indian Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, State Bank Of India, Syndicate Bank, Union Bank Of India, United Bank Of India, Vijaya Bank
  8. It will send a SMS to your bank to check if the number registered and selected by you for registration is same. If both of them matched then you are all set. OR If you have got multiple account then it will say, your number is assigned to multiple account, please contact bank branch. OR If you have selected wrong number, then you will receive an error stating, transaction or linkage declined for the respective bank
  9. Once everything verified and one, it will display screen with options - Send, Request and Scan and Pay
  10. This means you have successfully set up the app and it is now ready to use

Using this app you view your profile, record transaction and make changes for UPI pin and other options.
