Indian Institute of Packaging PG Diploma in Packaging admissions 2017-2019

About Indian Institute of Packaging

The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) was established in the year 1966 by the packaging and allied industries and the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. It is an autonomous institution operating under the administrative control of the Ministry of Commerce. The main objective of the institute is to improve the packaging standards in India. IIP has its centers at Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata with the headquarters located at Mumbai. Lot of education activities, training and research and development programmes are being carried out regularly at IIP to improve the packaging standard for the promotion of exports and the overall development in the field of packaging in the country.

Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging programme at IIP

To meet the demands of the industrial sectors, IIP has introduced a 2 year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging (PGDP) programme in the year 1965. The course covers all the aspects of packaging activity and provides a wide knowledge to the students on how to improve the packaging standards.

Two year full time PGDP course is available at IIP centers located at Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Admissions at IIP for PGDP programme 2017-2019

Admissions are open at IIP for 33rd batch PGDP programme 2017-2019. To get admissions at IIP, candidates must satisfy the eligibility criteria of IIP and have to follow the application procedures and guidelines mentioned below.

Eligibility criteria

Education criteria:

  • Fresh graduates or graduates who have completed their full time degree in any of the below mentioned specializations from a recognized university or any AICTE approved institutions with minimum second class are eligible to apply.

    1. B .Tech. / B.E. Courses – Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Civil, Computer Tech / IT, Agricultural engineering, Bio Chemical / Bio Technology, Food Technology, Pulp & Paper Technology, Plastics Technology, Polymer Technology, Oils & surfactants Technology, Dairy Technology /engineering, Pharmaceutical Technology, Green Technology, Nano Technology or any other Engineering / Technology

    2. B. Sc. - Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Material Science, Electronics, Environment Science, Polymer chemistry / science, Fishery Science, Nano Science, Bio-Technology, Zoology, Botany, Agricultural Sciences, Horticultural Sciences, Veterinary sciences, Dairy science, Food Science & Applied Nutrition

    3. B. Pharm. courses or 3 year B. Sc. in Pharmaceutical sciences

  • Candidates who are waiting for final examination results and those who are appearing for final examinations are also eligible to apply. However such candidates must submit their provisional results given by the University at the time of admissions. Failure in producing the results will lead to elimination.

  • Candidates who have completed part-time or correspondence degree programme are not eligible to apply.

Age criteria:

Candidates with a maximum age of 30 years as on 31.05.2017 with age relaxations of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC are eligible to apply.

How to apply

Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria can apply for PGDP course in IIP via any of the below mentioned ways. Application form fee is Rs. 500/-

  • Candidates can obtain the application forms in person by paying the application form fee of Rs.500/- as cash or by demand draft from the any of the centers of IIP. The DD should be taken in favour of 'Indian Institute of Packaging' payable at Mumbai or at any regional centers of IIP for Rs.500/-

  • Candidates can download the application form from the official website of IIP and should follow the submission guidelines as mentioned in the form

  • Candidates can fill the application form online.

Online application form submission

Candidates can fill the application form and submit it online through the online registration process of IIP.

Steps for filling online application form

Step 1: User registration

Candidates must register their details and become a registered applicant by clicking 'Register New user' button present in the online portal of IIP.

Note: Details should be given carefully at the time of registration.

Step 2: Login

After successful registration, candidates can login using their user name and password details to fill the online application form.

Step 3: Fill the online application form

After successful login into the online portal of IIP, candidates can fill the online application form. The form will contain fields to fill personal, educational, extra-curricular activities and employment details. All the mandatory fields in the form should be filled.

While filling the application form, candidates must upload the scanned copy of their necessary documents at the required places by clicking 'Upload documents' link. The documents to be uploaded are photograph of the applicant, mark sheets from class X to degree certificate and Community/caste certificate.

After filling the application form, candidates can either click 'Submit finally' or 'Save and continue later' option.


  • Online application form cannot be edited after clicking 'Continue and Submit' option. So check all the filled-in details before clicking 'Continue and Submit' option.

  • Session will expire, if the page is kept idle for more than 30 minutes.

  • Incomplete application form will be rejected

  • Online application form will be processed only if 'Confirm and Submit' option is clicked.

Step 4: Payment

After the final submission of the application form, candidates can pay the application fee of Rs.500/- via online payment options (Credit cards or SBI online banking) or through Demand Draft.

The DD should be taken in favour of 'Indian Institute of Packaging' payable at Mumbai for Rs.500/-

Step 5: Take printout

After final submission, click the 'Print form' option and take the print out of the filled application form.

The printed application form will contain the information filled by the candidate, registration ID and the online payment details of the applicant. The online transaction details will be present at the end of the form for those who have paid the application fee of Rs.500/- through online payment options.

Remember to note the registration ID printed in the application form, as it will be used during the time of admissions.

Step 6: Send the application form to IIP

After taking the print out of the application form, candidates should attach the below mentioned documents and submit it in person at "T & E Division, HO Mumbai" or regional centres or can also send it via registered post or courier or speed post to "The Course Coordinator T & E Division E-2, MIDC Area, Andheri (East) Mumbai-400 093"

On the top of the envelope, write "PGDPCET-2017, ONLINE Application"


  1. Demand draft for Rs.500/- (if not paid online). Write the name and registration ID at the backside of the DD

  2. Print out of the completed application form. Fill the details of DD in the space provided at the bottom of the application form printout.

  3. Attested copies of the certificates (only photocopies and not originals)

PGDP admission process at IIP

Candidates must apply for PGDP programme at IIP via online mode or offline mode and need to submit the application forms at the centers of the institute.

After processing the application forms, IIP will call the applicants to appear for PGDPCET-2017, a written examination conducted by IIP for PGDP admissions.

Applicants who have cleared the written examinations will be called for Personal Interview which will be conducted at IIP centers.

Final admission of the students is purely based on the merit. IIP will consider the aggregate marks obtained by a candidate in 10th Class/Matriculation, 12th Class/Sr. Secondary, Graduation level, PGDPCET-2017 and Personal Interview.

After evaluating the overall performance of the applicants, IIP will display the list of candidates who got selected based on the availability of seats.


PGDPCET is a written examination which will contain Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The syllabus for the written examination will be at a graduate level and will cover the subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Engineering.

The exam will be conducted at the preferred location of the candidate. Choice of centers for written test- Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Candidate must appear for PGDPCET-2017 and personal interviews at their own cost.

Availability of seats at IIP

The seats available at all IIP centers in India for every academic year is as follows

Mumbai: 280
Delhi: 100
Kolkata: 80
Hyderabad: 40

As per the Government norms 27.0% seats are reserved for OBC candidates and 15.0% for SC and 7.5% for ST candidates.

Important dates to remember

  1. Last date for receiving filled applications at IIP, Mumbai: 9th June, 2017

  2. PGDPCET-2017 Written exam in Mumbai (HO) and Regional Centres (RC): 15th June, 2017 at 11.00 am

  3. Display of short listed candidates at HO & RC: 24th June, 2017

  4. Personal Interviews at HO and RC: 29th – 30th June, 2017 at Mumbai and 3rd - 4th July, 2017 at Regional Centres.

  5. Final selection and display at HO and RC: 08th July, 2017

  6. Admission and Payment of fees: 10th – 14th July, 2017

  7. Display of 2nd list (if applicable): 15th July, 2017

  8. Admission and Payment of fees for 2nd list candidates: 15th – 24th July, 2017

  9. Commencement of the course: 17th July, 2017
