Aadhaar – a mandatory document for most banking transactions These days almost every bank has made it mandatory to submit your Aadhaar number for your bank accounts. Both existing as well as new account holders have to comply with the same. Even the government too is working towards making the Aadhaar mandatory for most financial transactions. Government subsidies like in cooking gas is only possible to be obtained if you have registered your Aadhaar with the bank as well as the gas agency.
Considering the above scenario it is advisable that you get yourself a Aadhaar card and integrate the same with your savings bank as well as other fixed deposits at the earliest. In case the account is in a joint name the joint holder too has to submit the same. Delay on your part in submitting the Aadhaar may sometimes lead to a freeze in your banking transactions.
Integrating your Aadhaar number with your bank account is a very easy process. You need to visit your bank with your Aadhaar card as well as an original copy of it. Write an application to the bank requesting them to do the needful in this regard giving all the necessary details including your name, Aadhaar number and the bank accounts which need to be integrated. Along with your application attach the self certified copy of your Aadhaar card. If need be, show your Aadhaar card to the bank official who might be receiving your application. And that's it; your Aadhaar will thus be registered and integrated with all your bank accounts; savings as well as fixed deposits.
For your easy reference I have put one sample letter, which goes as follows. Please note that the account holder's name, bank name, address, account numbers and Aadhaar number are all assumed ones. You need to replace them as applicable to you
