Chemical engineering is a stream where there are many opportunities for the qualified persons. Unfortunately we have a big inventory of the students who are qualified chemical engineers and I am afraid that there are not so many appropriate jobs for these graduates or post graduates. This has created a lack of interest in students for choosing chemical engineering as a subject in their UG program. They are going to computer science or finance or commerce or other areas where saturation is not so much as is the case in the chemical engineering. At the same time those who are doing specialised certificate courses or diploma courses after obtaining their engineering degrees are somehow managing to get jobs in some specialised industries.

A nice article and exhaustive details for making a career in Chemical Engineering stream. Chemical Engineering is a very big area and many industries are in the business of chemicals and related products. Chemical manufacturing is one of the biggest segment in the industrial business encompassing all sorts of chemicals from agricultural pesticides to the high quality chemicals used in the drugs and formulations. The list of products is endless and new units are being installed by the prospective entrepreneurs. In this scenario it makes sense to study the market and see the demand of chemicals in the market and decide what type of diploma or degree or even certificate course would be suitable for making a career or for a better job hunting in the chemical engineering arena. There is a big demand of home products like cleaners and disinfectants, then there is a big demand of products used in the specific industries themselves for converting one product to other where one product becomes the raw material for creating another value added product, and many such other transformations of chemicals from one form to another.

One thing which is to be mentioned at this juncture is that a student should make a self assessment and accordingly decide for a diploma course or engineering course. One should not go for the engineering course just like that blindly. One has to go through the pros and cons of the process and the expected score or merit in the course is one important consideration. Definitely, there are opportunities but they are mostly grabbed by the meritorious students. So, a conscious decision is to be taken before joining a chemical engineering or diploma course.
