How to apply for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) fellowship

Are you a brilliant student of class 11th/ 12th/ first year B Sc.? If you have a research aptitude and want to become scientist in India, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a boon to study in Indian Institutes of science. This article is written for the purpose to create awareness about KVPY fellowship and to guide the students on the application process.


The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) was started in 1999. The objective of the programme is to identify and attract highly motivated students with talent and aptitude for research. The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is fellowship in basic sciences funded by the Department of Science and Technology. Selected candidates are offered to pursue their study in Indian institutes of science. They are given Rs.5000 per month scholarship and Rs.20000 grant per year.


The KVPY Programme enrols students in 3 streams i.e. stream SA, Stream SX and Stream SB. They are namely: stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard. have secured a minimum of 80% in the X Standard. stream SX: Students enrolled in XII Standard (Science) have secured a minimum of 80% in the X Standard a minimum of 60% in the XI standard. stream SB: Students enrolled in the 1st year of undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Math. /Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. during the academic year. have secured a minimum of 60% in the XII Standard Board Examination. They must secure 60% marks in their 1st year of graduation.

Selection Procedure

The selection is done through two stage Aptitude Test and interview. All eligible students will be called for aptitude test at different centers across the country on last Sunday of the month (29th October 2017). Interview will be Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students will be asked to appear for an interview

Application Fee

Rs.1050 for General/OBC Candidates and Rs. 528 for SC/ST/PwD category. The fee can be paid through online or offline mode.

Steps to apply for KVPY:

  2. Click on the "Candidates Login" link

  5. Complete the registration part.

  6. User ID and Password will generate after registration
  7. .
  8. Login with User ID and Password.

  9. Fill detail application details

  10. Upload Scanned sig and photo and other Documents

  11. Final Submit the application form.

  12. Pay the application fee.

  13. Keep the application printout for further reference.
