A person is said to be suffering from vertigo when the patient feels that he himself or his surroundings is/are moving or spinning. It is different from dizziness. A person suffering from vertigo feels that the entire surroundings are moving. In case of subjective vertigo, the person feels that he himself is moving. In case of objective vertigo a person thinks that the surroundings are moving.

Vertigo is generally caused by the inflammation within the inner ear which is characterized by the onset of vertigo. Occasionally, it may be associated with hearing loss. But duration of symptoms can last for days until the inflammation subsides. In this article, we are going to discuss some natural cures for vertigo.



#1: Indian gooseberry (Amla)

Indian gooseberry (Amla) is very effective in the treatment of vertigo. One teaspoon powder of Indian gooseberry and one teaspoon of coriander seeds are taken and soaked in water overnight. The patient is required to drink this concoction with half teaspoon of sugar. Regular drinking of the concoction will help the patient to be cured. Indian gooseberry is extensively used in Ayurvedic system as a natural cure for vertigo.

#2: Strawberries and Yoghurts

Like the Indian gooseberry, the strawberries are also very effective for treatment of vertigo. Some strawberries are to be taken. These strawberries should be soaked and mixed with a bowel of yoghurt. The patient should take the mixture of yoghurt and strawberry. Taking this on a regular basis will definitely reduce the problem of vertigo.

#3: Paste of various seeds

A person suffering from vertigo should take two tablespoons of wheat grain, eight almonds, poppy seeds and eight watermelon seeds. These seeds should be soaked in water overnight. In the morning, the seeds are required to be pasted and heated with one teaspoon of ghee and fried with two cloves. The paste should be taken by the patient everyday for a week. This will definitely reduce the symptom of vertigo to a large extent.

#4: Almonds

Almonds are also very effective in treatment of vertigo. Some almonds are required to be ground and the powder is to be prepared. This powder should be mixed with one tablespoon of warm milk. The milk mixed with almond powder should be taken once a day. This will definitely reduce the symptom of vertigo and the patient will feel energetic and healthy.

#5: Lemon juice

An attack of vertigo is always associated with nausea. As soon as the patient feels that an attack of vertigo is coming, he should prepare a mixture of lemon, salt and black pepper. Then a solution is required to be prepared with warm water. The patient should take the warm solution. This would help in subsiding the feeling of nausea associated with vertigo.



#6: Water

Water is a well-known cleanser and people suffering from vertigo must take adequate amount of water to remain hydrated. This is also necessary because vertigo is generally associated with nausea and vomiting. Adequate consumption of water will definitely help the vertigo patient.

A person who has a history of vertigo should be cautious and careful. He should avoid sharp and sudden movements ,turns. A bit moderation is needed in every physical action.

On waking up from bed, instead of suddenly getting up,he should slowly tun on the sides in the bed itself and slowly get up by supporting himself until steadying.
Of the above natural cures or 'managements' Amla is the best and most easily practicable. people who have experienced vertigo may keep sun-dried honeyed Amla with them and take one or two pieces two or three times a day(if other health issues prohibiting this are not there). It will be more effective if they can dissolve and chew and eat slowly like candy.

Getting an adequate amount of sleep daily is the best natural cure for vertigo. Maintain a proper sleep schedule and keep the mind at rest and relaxed before going to bed. Eat lots of fresh organic fruits and vegetables in all the meals. Eat foods which decrease blood sugar, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. Eat foods which are rich in magnesium. Avoid consuming sugar and salt in an excess amount. Avoid foods which can trigger vertigo like aged meat, aged cheese, yogurt, bananas, chocolate etc.

Eat foods which are anti-inflammatory in nature like leafy green vegetables, fruits like bananas and avocados. Anti-inflammatory foods keep blood pressure within normal range. They hydrate the body well and thus prevent dehydration which leaves a less scope for triggering of another vertigo attack. Eat lean meat and healthy fats like coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil. Include lots of vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables in the diet plan like oranges, lemon, green pepper, tomato, dark green leafy vegetables etc.

Along with water, make sure to drink freshly squeezed juices made from various organic fruits and vegetables. A glass of sugarcane juice, coconut water will also be beneficial. The whole purpose behind it is to hydrate the body as much as possible. Vertigo often also welcomes nausea and drinking ginger tea on regular basis will help to sort out this problem. Also, a piece of raw ginger if eaten can also prove to be beneficial. If ginger or ginger tea is taken during vertigo attack can help in getting rid of symptoms of attack in just a few minutes. Drinking basil tea or chewing a few leaves of basil is also good.

Prepare lemon balm: Boil water in a pan. To it add 1 tsp of lemon balm. Let it simmer for 5-10 minutes. Strain it and drink the liquid 3-4 times a day to decrease the frequency as well as the intensity of vertigo attacks.
