Best ways to learn to communicate in a foreign language in three months

The world is gradually transforming into a global village and the communication among people of various parts of the world is increasing. In the present scenario, it is becoming more necessary to learn to effectively communicate in foreign languages. This article discusses effective steps of communicating in a new language within a short period of time.

Language is the medium of communication. If we know a language, we can effectively communicate with the speaker of the particular language. The world has been slowly becoming a global village. People to people contact is increasing. Nowadays we visit many new countries. To understand the culture, history and other aspects of the countries which we visit, it is necessary for us to learn the languages spoken in those countries to enable us to effectively communicate with the people of those countries. We cannot expect that the people of those countries can speak English. As for example, in the vast continent of South America, very few people communicate in English. Most of the people of the continent of South America speak Spanish and Portuguese rather than English.

On the other hand, it is not possible for ordinary people to learn every nitty-gritty of a foreign language in a very short period. It is not possible to understand and use the proverbs, idioms, syntaxes and various other aspects of a foreign language. So, the next preferable course of action is to communicate effectively in a foreign language. Thanks to various modern gadgets and internet, it is possible for an attentive learner to learn to effectively communicate in a foreign language in three months or so. In this article, we are going to discuss the best ways to learn to communicate in a foreign language within a reasonable period of three months.

#1: Try to pronounce the word loudly from the beginning

Beginners should not hesitate to speak loudly. From the very first day itself the beginner must pronounce each and every word he/she learns. It is the most important step of effective communication in a foreign language.

#2: Don't give undue importance on grammar

It must be remembered that our aim is to effectively communicate in a foreign language and not to write any article/story in that language. So, we must not give undue stress on learning grammar of that language. Grammar will come in the next stage, if we want to go to the depth of that language.

#3: Learn words and sentences by heart

When we try to learn to communicate in a new language, we must try to learn by heart the practical phrases/sentences of the foreign language as for example, we must learn to say "Good Morning", "Thank You", "What is your name", "How can I go to ABC hotel", "What is the Charge", Please pass on the bill", etc. In fact, the language experts advise us to learn hundred to two hundred useful sentences of the new language which we intend to learn.

#4: Practise one-minute introduction

The next step for the learner is to practise one minute introduction. The language experts advise a new learner to practise introduction in front of a mirror. If we can learn the introduction, we will get tremendous confidence and confidence does wonder in learning a new language.

#5: Converse with a native speaker

If possible, a beginner must befriend a native speaker and start conversing with him/her in the new language which he/she has been learning. Conversation with the native speaker will give fluency and confidence to the beginner. If a native speaker is not readily available, the beginner may try to practise by using Skype.

#6: Listen to the radio

If the learner listens to a radio station in the new language, he/she will be immensely benefited. The beginner must try to speak those sentences which the speaker/news-reader speaks/reads. This will help the beginner to become more fluent in the language.

#7: Check out free language learning online tools

Internet has made learning new language little bit easier. There are various free language learning tools available online. Duolingo is one such language learning tool. The learner must take advantage of this free language learning tool and apps.

The beginner must not ponder over the thought of making mistakes. Instead he/she should speak as much time in the new language as possible; only then fluency can be achieved.

A nice article which puts emphasis on every aspect that we go through when we start to learn a new or foreign language. This article also very well defines the hesitation among speakers and how to overcome this hesitation and importance of grammar and other parts of language while learning a new language. Overall I find it very helpful for beginners or new learners of any language.

I really liked the article. Very nice points; I liked the point about grammar the most. It is very important. I have seen many people that they are quite good in a language but they are not able to speak in it as they are very conscious about their grammar and when you start thinking of grammar before speaking, you can never speak fluently.
There are many groups on various social networking sites, which help in improving your language. Find such a group where there are people who are learning the same language and converse with them. The more you speak, the more you learn.
Lastly, listen to songs of that language. Learning a new language may be boring at times because it takes quite an effort but music is never boring. Also, there are apps which give you the translation of the lyrics in English. So, it can be really helpful.
