Applications invited for IIM Common Admission Test 2017 (IIM-CAT 2017)

IIM-Common Admission Test is an exam conducted to select students to the various PG as well as Doctoral programs in the top IIMs of our country. IIMs are the premier B- Schools in India and are located in places like Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Bodh Gaya, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Jammu Kashmir, Kasipur, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Nagpur, Ranchi, Raipur, Rohtak, Shillong, Sambalpur, Sirmaur, Udaipur, Tiruchirappalli and Visakhapatnam. For the year 2017, IIM CAT entrance date has been announced. Apart from the above mentioned IIM's, there are several other business schools which consider the CAT score for their MBA courses. Candidates with not less than 50% marks in graduate course are eligible to apply for IIM CAT 2017. Those who are appearing for their final exams are also eligible to apply for this exam. Candidates having equivalent CGPACA / CS/CMA qualifications can also apply for Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Common Admission Test 2017.

How to apply

Candidates can apply online through starting 9 August 2017.

Registration fees

Candidates should pay the registration fees only once, irrespective of the number of institutes they are applying for. There won't be any refunding of the fees once they are submitted. Here are the details
  • SC/ST/PwD candidates : Rs 900
  • All other candidates: Rs 1800

How to pay the registration fees

The registration fees can be paid by online payment modes only, that is mainly through credit card /debit card/net banking only.

Test centers

The exam will be conducted in 140 cities across the country. Initially the candidates can give an option to select 4 test cities in the order of preference.

Mode of entrance test

The entrance test will be of 180 minutes. There will be 3 sections like
  • Verbal ability and reading comprehension
  • Data interpretation and logical reasoning
  • Quantitative ability

Do not expect all questions to be multiple choices in all the sections. For some questions, you need to give direct answers that need to be typed on the screen. Also basic on screen calculator for computation is allowed for this exam. In each section, the candidates' will be given 60 minutes for answering questions. If you are trying this type of exams for the first time, do not worry as a tutorial to understand the test format will be available on the CAT website that starts from 18 October 2017. All candidates who apply for IIM CAT 2017 exam are advised to work on the tutorial in advance of this exam.

Shortlisting of candidates

The list of candidates shortlisted for the next level of selection will be made available on the website of the respective IIMs. The names of IIM with their website are mentioned above. The shortlisted candidates will receive an interview letter directly from each IIM. The shortlisting criteria will be different for each IIM. So candidates are requested to visit the admission hotlinks of the respective IIM websites for more information.

Selection process

The candidates will be selected to IIM's based on their performance in the CAT 2017 examination, Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). In addition, several other factors like work experience and previous academic performances will also be taken into consideration for shortlisting candidates. As mentioned earlier, the process will be different for each IIM. So don't forget to check the websites of each IIM to know the updates.

Eligibility verification

If a candidate is shortlisted for any IIM interview, then they must have the following certificates for eligibility verification.
  • Original mark sheets and degree certificates with their attested copies
  • Original caste/class and/or disability certificates(SC, ST, NC-OBC and PWD candidates)
  • Original certificate from the Principal / Registrar / Director of the university/ institution(for final year students)
