The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, better known by its Acronym, GATE, is a National Level Entrance Test conducted each year, for admission into IITs, IISc, IISERs and other established engineering institutes in India to their M.E, M.Tech and PhD programmes. The examination is conducted by the IITs and IISc alternately.

Candidates who qualify the GATE are eligible for admission into Masters and Doctoral (Postgraduate programmes) with Ministry of Human Research and Development (MHRD) and other Government Assistantships/Scholarships in the following fields –
A few PSUs consider the GATE score for recruitment. The GATE scores are valid for a period of 3-years after the results are declared.
The registration for GATE 2018 will commence on September 01, 2017. Candidates will be able to register their names on the GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System), on the said date, when the website goes live. Candidates desirous for appearing in GATE 2018 can check the eligibility criteria (the same is mentioned below) and apply for the test, by submitting an online application, which will be available on the GOAPS website on September 01. Scanned copies of signature and photograph have to be uploaded, during registration. The applicant will also need to pay the requisite fees, either online or through Challan. Payments can be remitted either online using credit/debit cards or net banking or via e-Challan. Applicants will have to bear additional charges levied by their respective banks for exchange and transfer of funds and service tax. Examination Centres
The examination will be conducted in a selected cities and towns across India, and at the following cities, overseas Dhaka in Bangladesh, Singapore, Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Kathmandu in Nepal, Colombo in Sri Lanka and Dubai in the UAE.
