How to apply for IBPS PO/MT 2017 Exam – Recruitment notification

The IBPS PO/MT 2017 exam notification has been announced. Do you wish to apply for the post of Probationary Officer (PO) or Management Trainee (MT) in PSU Banks? Details of recruitment - how to apply, where and when to apply, the exam pattern, fees, eligibility and the important dates are provided below.

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has published a notification for recruitment of Probationary Officer (PO) and Management Trainees (MT) in Public Sector Banks. Candidates desirous of joining the Public Banking Sector can now register their names online, for the exam that is scheduled to be conducted in October 2017.

Brief on the IBPS PO/MT exam

The IBPS exam is conducted in two parts. There is a preliminary round, followed by the mains. Prospective candidates must have a graduate degree, in any discipline, from an institute recognised by the Government of India or possess an equivalent qualification that is recognised by the Central Government.

Documents needed for IBPS PO/MT exam registration

Candidates must have the following documents available with them before applying for registration –
  • Scanned photograph of self. Ensure that it is a latest snapshot. The photograph should measure 4.5cm x 3.5cmScanned copy of signature to fit into a 4.5cm x 3.5cm box. The signature should not be in capital letters/uppercase
  • A valid personal email ID, which should be active at the time of the registration, to receive important communication
  • Copy of education documents
  • Copy of age proof
  • Fee of Rs.600 for applicants under the General Category and Rs.100 for those under the reserved categories (SC/ST/PwD)

The application procedure

  • Log onto the IBPS portal
  • Click on the scroll at the top of the page that announces 'Common Recruitment Process (CRP) for Recruitment of Probationary Officer (PO)/Management Trainees in Participating Organisation – (CWE PO/MT – VII)
  • A new page will open
  • Click on the 'Click Here For New Registration' tab
  • A new page will open - proceed to fill in the details in all the fields
  • Submit application
  • Once the application is registered the system will generate the 'Registration Number' and 'Password'
  • The same must be saved as they will be required for accessing the site for printing/downloading of admit card/call letter/results etc.
  • Applicants will also receive a Confirmation email (the one submitted in the application) with the Registration Number and Password
  • Candidates can also save the application and e-Receipt generated by the system once they complete the application process


Candidates must either possess a Bachelor's degree from a UGC recognised university or have an equivalent qualification.

Age limit

Candidates must be aged between 20-30 years at the time of registration. Candidates from reserved category enjoy relaxation in age.

Important dates in the IBPS PO/MT calendar

Applicants must jot down these dates for reference –

  • 16 August 2017 – Application process starts
  • 05 September 2017 – Last date to register
  • Before 23 September (exact date not published yet) – Admit card will be available for download
  • 23 September - 29 September 2017 – Pre-Exam Training
  • Call letter for online Preliminary exam will be available for download after the training period (date not available yet
  • Online prelims will be conducted on the following days – 07, 08, 14 & 15 October 2017
  • Result of prelims will be announced in October 2017 (date not announced)
  • November 2017 call letter for Main online exam will be available for download (exact date not issued)
  • 26 November 2017 –Main Examination will be conducted online
  • December 2017 – Results will be announced (date not known)
  • January 2018 – Interview letters will be sent to candidates
  • January-February 2018 – Interviews will be conducted ( exact dates will be mentioned in the interview letter)
  • April 2018 – Provisional allotment of posts to successful candidates

Important information

The pre-exam training would be conducted by participating organisations and nodal banks and offered to a restricted number of applicants, from the reserved category, such as the SC/ST/PwD/minority communities at different locations, pan India.

Examination pattern

Here are the key features of the examination -

  • The examination has three segments comprising of English language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability
  • The exam will be of 100 marks
  • The duration of the exam will be 60 minutes
  • The English language section will carry 30 questions of 1 mark each
  • The Quantitative section will carry 35 questions of 1 mark each
  • The Reasoning Ability section will carry 35 questions on 1 mark each
