How to apply for DBT Govt. of India Bioinformatics Industrial Training Program 2017-2018 ?

Are you a student of Bioinformatics looking for a government industrial training program? This article provides information about the Bioinformatics Industrial Training Program (BIITP) offered by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India invites online applications from eligible students to apply for the Bioinformatics Industrial Training Program (BIITP) 2017-2018, managed by Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL).


The main goal of the Bioinformatics Industrial Training Program (BIITP) is to give Bioinformatics students an opportunity to acquire practical skills and also gain work experience through projects alongside industry experts. However, training does not ensure permanent placement.

If selected to join the training program, which will begin in December 2017, then you should be willing to join anywhere in India. At the place of training, you need to make your own arrangements for lodging & boarding. The company may or may not provide boarding/lodging facility on payment of applicable charges or provide assistance in finding accommodation.

You must adhere to the rules and regulations of the company where you are undergoing training. If you quit the training in between or you are terminated, the stipend would not be paid for the rest of the training period. Also, those who are considered to be not serious about the training, as per the company's feedback, will be terminated without prior notice. If you are terminated from a company due to unsatisfactory work or indiscipline or misconduct, the trainee would not be placed in any other company.

Eligibility requirements

  1. You must have a B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc./M.Tech. Degree in Bioinformatics or an Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics from a recognized university in India, with minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade in highest degree/diploma completed in the year 2016 or 2017. If you are having the Diploma qualification, it must be of at least one year duration after graduation.
  2. In case the result of the last semester/final year has not yet been declared, then also you can apply, stating your marks up to the semester/year up to the result declared. You then must submit the final result with the original mark sheet(s) of all the semesters/years at the time of the interview.
  3. Students who have already undergone training under BIITP or are employed are not eligible to apply.
  4. Candidates interested in higher studies and research need not apply.

Application procedure for students

  • You must submit your application in online mode only at the official website at: latest by 5th October 2017. When filling in the online form, do not put any special characters like: % > < / #, " etc as these will not be accepted by the system. Once submitted successfully, take a print out of it

Note: The online application form must be filled up within 20 minutes, otherwise the page will expire.

List of documents

  • An application fee in the form of a DD (Demand Draft) of Rs. 250/- in favour of "Biotech Consortium India Limited" payable at New Delhi. This payment is non-refundable. Ensure that you write your application ID, name, date of birth and mobile no. on the reverse side of the demand draft.
  • A hard copy (print out) of the system generated acknowledgement of the application form which you submitted online.
  • Self- attested photocopies of all mark sheets and certificates of highest degree/diploma. In case of Diploma qualification, you need to attach the mark sheets/certificates of graduation/post-graduation as well.
  • If you are appearing in the final exam in 2017, then you need to attach a filled and signed certificate from the HOD (Head of Department) on the college/university

Selection process through interview

Based on the applications received, those who are eligible will be required to attend an interview, the interview to be held in various cities. It is possible that you may be called for the interview in the city other than selected while filling in the application form. The list of eligible candidates will be uploaded at the official website with information of the interview date, time and venue.

Travel & other expenses for the interview

Only the outstation candidates appearing for the interview will be paid to and fro traveling expenses equivalent to 2nd class train fare (non AC) by the shortest route, on production of tickets in original. In order to claim the travel expenses, 2 copies of tickets booked online or taken from the ticket window must be attached with the claim form. Note that Ticket fares for premium Tatkal will not be paid. If you are an outstation candidate appearing for the interview from a place other than as indicated in your application, then the fare reimbursement will be limited to the place mentioned in the application or place from where you actually arrived, whichever is shorter.

All candidates will need to make the necessary arrangements for boarding and lodging while appearing for the interview.

  1. A copy of dissertation/project work (if you have done any)
  2. Photo identification proof: This could be your Voter I-card, Driving licence, Passport, PAN card etc.
  3. The final consolidated mark sheet and provisional certificate.

BIITP program for Bioinformatics and Biotechnology companies

The BIITP program also gives those in the industry the opportunity to identify potential employees for their companies. Those in the Bioinformatics and Biotechnology Industry who are keen to provide hands-on industrial training to the students under BIITP can apply online. The companies are not obliged to pay anything to the trainees. The companies will be given a bench fee to cover all expenses, including training.
