Vegan Diet, this is apparently a trending topic in the recent days. Many of us think that we should go vegan to overcome the extinguish of animal kingdom. But it is not the one lone factor to opt for being a vegan. We youth are reluctant to accept the fact that there are scientifically proven benefits in it when compared to western eating.

A couple of days ago, I read a report that 50 percent of Americans are trying to cut down the consumption of meat and I feel this is seemingly for a good cause. Our diet pattern plays a vital role in our life and it decides our healthy well-being. There are diverse reasons for the indulgence of vegan diet and many of the people have got inspired to it and brought a change in their diet pattern.

I've been vegan for the past 5 years and I would like to segment the outcomes that I experienced by being a vegan.

I was certainly not eating animal products to be healthy, I do so just to relish the taste and can't get out of it. But now I feel, a vegan diet is certainly a great choice for my health.

The debate will always keep going on, about if one should become vegan and avoid consumption of meat or not. Personally, I feel it is all about one's preference. There are plenty of benefits of vegetarian food but at the same time non veg food has its benefits as well. Meat is the best source of protein. If you want to improve your physique, the best food to complement gym exercieses is meat. It helps in increasing the muscles way faster than veg food. To add, meat contains vitamin B-12 which is not found in any plant diet.

One of the most pointless things that people say is eating non-veg is harming the environment. Let me clear this with the help of biology. Non vegetarians are an important part of the food chain. If there are no non vegetarians, it will interfere with the proper functioning of the food chain and put the nature in disorder. So if you are a vegan, good for you but one should not force your mentality over others. Don't make non-vegetarians feel bad by saying pointless things like "because of you environment is getting harmed". Live and let live. Both foods have their advantages as well as disadvantages; so eat what you prefer.

If we examine the life of animals we will find that some of them eat meat and likewise food items while others only take grass, fruits, leaves and things like that which are vegan items. If we believe in Darwin's theory of evolution this has some connection with the evolution and during the history of evolution the animals were adapted to their surroundings and food items available there time to time.

So it was decided by the environment who will eat what. With time, humans were evolved on this planet earth and the concept of society and civilization started to see the light of the day. With that background we are today having an option of taking both the type of foods or rather precisely for us one type of food is having more weightage than others.

The scientific studies have shown that the meat items if taken in large quantity or from unhygienic sources can harm the body. Another interesting thing is the human body has evolved in such a way that the digestive system is designed to be more friendly to vegan diet. The length of alimentary canal is large (about 9 to 10 meters) and it is basically to digest the fibrous vegan foods properly. It means for a large period during evolution humans were exposed to eating vegan diets. The debate will continue but these facts make us to believe that vegan diet is better option.

Nice article about diet and advantages of Vegan diet. The fact that of most of us forget is we compare data and advice issued from Western Countries with the Indian counterparts. It's like comparing animals of two different species. If you look at advice from the West for 6 months in a year who get reports that coffee is good, the next 6 months you get tea is good for health. Just a few months back I read that coffee is good for your health as it reduces the incidence of Parkinson's disease. So we should take these reports with a pinch of salt.

The meat consumption both quality and quantity is much higher in the western countries. The fibre consumption is relatively low.
The average body mass index is higher for people of western countries.
Their data-gathering techniques are far more reliable than ours.

For instance, what is the yardstick to classify a person Non-vegetarian in India? Even people who have 2-3 pieces of chicken or mutton call themselves as Non-vegetarians.

It is a general belief in many that vegetarian food is good for health. When you compare the benefits of veg and nonveg, the veg food is found to be better for health.
