Apply online for IGRUA course admissions 2018-2019 and get a commercial pilot license

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA) invites applications from those desirous of, as their tagline goes, giving wings to their dreams through their 2018 Ab-initio to Commercial Pilot License (CPL) course. Candidates who are shortlisted will be inducted as per Final Merit in one of the three batches, namely of September 2018, January 2019 and March 2019.


IGRUA is under the aegis of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Government of India. Indian citizens and international candidates can pursue pilot training at IGRUA. The aircraft utilized for the training includes single engine and multi-engine fleet. Faculty who impart the training are not only having the relevant qualification but also have personal experience in flying aircraft in the civil or military sector. Safety of those selected for training to be pilots is assured. A separate airspace has been demarcated for air-borne training, with requisite modern on-ground training facilities and modern navigational aids as well.

Residential hostel accommodation with meals is provided for both boys and girls is provided on campus. There is a gym and sports facilities, too, for badminton, basketball, squash, football, etc.

IGRUA CPL course features

The IGRUA CPL course enables you to take up careers as pilots with national and international airlines. On-campus placement interviews with national carriers are scheduled from time to time.

The course is of 18 months duration. Provision for an extension may be made. There are 75 seats available, out of which 38 are for general candidates, 11 for SC candidates, 6 for ST candidates and 20 for OBC candidates.

Eligibility requirements

  1. Age criteria: You must have completed 17 years of age at the time of joining the IGRUA course.

  2. Education qualifications:
    • For general candidates: You must have passed in English, Maths and Physics at 10+2 level with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in Maths & Physics.

    • For SC/ST/OBC candidates: You must have passed in English, Maths and Physics at 10+2 level with a minimum 50% aggregate marks in Maths & Physics. In case candidates do not qualify after 5% relaxation in the entrance test, the seats would be de-reserved for General Category candidates.

    Note: If you are appearing in the qualifying examination in 2018, you are provisionally eligible to apply & are subject to compliance of eligibility criteria.

  3. Medical fitness: You will need to submit a Class-I medical fitness certificate as proof of your fitness. You may join initially with a Class-II medical fitness certificate, but will later need to clear & submit a Class-I medical fitness certificate. Course Fees

The list of fees is as follows:
  1. Application fee: General category candidates and OBC candidates have to pay an application fee of Rs. 10,000/- (non-refundable), while SC and ST candidates are exempt from paying this fee. This fee can be paid via internet banking, debit or credit cards or in cash in any branch of State Bank of India through a payment slip to be generated online.

  2. Training fee: The training fee for this course is Rs. 38lakhs (Pending approval for a revision to Rs.40 lakhs.) This can be paid in four quarterly instalments. A service tax may additionally be levied (presently it is subjudice).

  3. Additional expenses: There will be additional expenses of approximately Rs. 1.50lakh towards the cost of study material, uniform, navigation computer, headphones, DGCA/ RTR examination and License fee.

  4. Accommodation: Rs. 10,000/- approximately per month for mess & hostel accommodation on twin-sharing basis within the campus. Boys and girls stay in separate hostels.

  5. Commitment money: If you are selected at the final selection stage (see selection process below), then you will need to pay commitment money of Rs. 2lakhs by 18th August 2018 (this amount is non-refundable but will be adjusted against the total fee) to secure your seat for the course.

How to apply

You need to register and apply for the online written test, which will be conducted at specific centres on 12th May, 2018, at: IGRUA entrance test portal.

In addition to having a valid Email ID and a valid mobile number, you will need a scanned copy of recent passport size photograph in JPG/JPEG format only (file size 80KB maximum) and scanned signatures (file size 80KB maximum).

You can download your Admit Card on or after 5th May 2018. The admit card will have your interview & aptitude test schedule and will be valid only if you are shortlisted in the written test.

Entrance test

The written entrance test is an online one which will be conducted at various centres (refer to list of centres: You can opt for three centers, giving first, second and third choice. The questions cover General English, Maths, Physics, Reasoning & Current Affairs based on 10+2 level syllabus. The questions are objective type, with no negative marking.

Selection process

Based on the score in the written test, candidates will be shortlisted for the interview / Viva, starting from 2nd July 2018. For this, you will need to bring along the following documents in original along with one photocopy of each document:
  • Proof of date of birth (such as 10th Class certificate).

  • Your Class 10 mark sheet.

  • You 10+2 mark sheet.

  • Caste Certificate if you are an SC/ST/OBC category candidate.

  • If applicable, a certificate from the competent Authority that as an OBC category candidate you do not belong to Creamy layer.

  • Admit card which you had downloaded for the written test

Once you clear the interview/Viva, you must clear the Pilot Aptitude Test/ Psychometric Test. Only successful candidates in these tests would be eligible for final selection.

Important Dates

  1. Online application start date: 5th March 2018, at 9a.m.

  2. Last date for submitting application with offline payment through bank challan: 24th April, 2018

  3. Last date to for submitting application with online payment: 1st May 2018.

  4. Download Admit Card: from 5th May, 2018

  5. Online written test: 12th May, 2018 (Saturday) at 14.30hrs.

  6. Interview/ Viva Schedule on Website/ Emails/SMS for Successful candidates in Written test: 4th June 2018 (Monday).

  7. Interview/ Viva & Pilot Aptitude Test starts from: 2nd July 2018 (Monday).

  8. Result of written test on IGRUA website/via email/SMS: 24th July 2018.

  9. Last Date for payment of Commitment Money: 18th August 2018.

  10. Date of Joining First Batch: 5th September 2018.
