How to get Admission to Post Graduate Programme,2018 of Indian Institute of Technology,Bombay.

Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has invited application for Admission to Post Graduate Programme of M.Tech, Ph.D., M.Tech and Ph.D. (Dual Degree), M.Phil and M.Sc Ph.D. (Dual Degree) and these are Energy Programmes,2018 starting from the Academic Year July 2018. Last Date for Applying is April 11, 2018.


Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay was established in the year 1958 and it was first one to set up with the help of foreign assistance. They received funds from UNESCO and in 1961, the parliament decided to declare IIT's with national Importance. From there onwards the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has grown in strength and became one of the topmost enginnering colleges in India and even one of the top technical universities in the world.

Eligibility Criteria


  1. Master's Degree in Engineering or Technology or degree which is equivalent and 60% marks or First class. For SC and ST division they need 55%marks.

  2. One of following only is needed
  3. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology with 60% marks or First class and 55% marks for SC and ST.

  4. Master's Degree in Science or degree which is equivalent or 60% marks or First class. 55%marks for SC and ST,

  5. Master's Degree in Arts or Commerce or degree which is equivalent with minimum 55%marks and 50% for SC and ST for admission to Ph.D programmes.

Applicants need one of additional following requirements.

  • A valid GATE or CEED score.

  • A Junior Research Fellowship of CSIR, UGC,NBHM,DBT,ICMR,ICPR and DST INSPIRE fellowship.

  • Applicants who are having UGC NET Lectureship will be eligible for teaching assistantship other than qualifications in social science and Humanities department.

  • A minimum 2 years experience obtained after qualifying degree and completed within the start of the semester.


  1. Applicants with 60% or First class Degree in B.E, B.Tech, BSc(Engineering), M.C.A, M.Sc, M.B.B.S, M.Pharm, B.Pharm, B.D.S which is of 4 years degree. Memberships exams which is conducted by the professional bodies like Institution of engineers, Institute of chemical engineers or Aeronautical Society of India and which is recognized equivalent to B.E and B.Tech Degree.

M.Tech and Ph.D(Dual Degree)
Applicants who are eligible for M.Tech Admissions will be also eligible for Dual Degree of M.Tech and Ph.D. For both degrees there is only one common application. Applicants getting admission to M.Tech programmes will also be eligible for Dual Degree programme, if they opted in application.
M.Phil(Planning and Development)

Applicants need to satisfy one of the following criteria.

  • Master's degree in Commerce and Arts with minimum 55% marks or which is equivalent to degree. 50% marks for SC and ST from a deemed or recognized university.

  • M.Sc or B.Tech degree or equivalent degree and a background in Social Science with minimum 60% marks. 55% marks for SC and ST.

  • Admission to this programme will be open to those who qualify in M.Phil Entrance test. The candidates need to appear for MET 2018 to consider for the admission.

M.Sc-Ph.D(Dual Degree) Energy
The applicants need to have Bachelor's Degree in science with 3 years duration. The subjects studied must be chemistry, Maths, Physics. The program intake will be based on Joint Admission Test and followed by an interview.
