Online applications open for SBI recruitment of Probationary Officers April 2018

State Bank of India (SB) has issued a recruitment notification inviting eligible candidates who are Indian Citizens to apply for appointment as Probationary Officers (POs). Apply online latest by 13th May 2018 to avail of this wonderful opportunity to work with SBI as a Probationary Officer. There are totally 118 vacancies. You will get the opportunity to develop your career, with the chance to get a posting abroad. Based on merit, via the Bank's promotion policy, you can even climb up the ladder to reach the top management grade.

Eligibility criteria:

Educational qualifications

You should be a Graduate in any discipline from a recognised University or any equivalent qualification which is recognised by the Central Government. You can also submit a provisional application if you are in the Final year/
Semester of your Graduation course. However, in this case, at the time of interivews, you will have to produce proof of having passed the graduation exam on or before 31st August 2018.

Those who have an integrated dual degree (IDD) certificate should ensure that the date of passing the IDD is on or before 31st August 2018. You can also apply if you have a qualification of Chartered Accountant.

Age requirement

As on 1st April 2018, you should not be below 21 years and not above 30 years. That is, the date of birth should be not later than 1st April 1997 and not earlier than 2nd April 1988 (both days inclusive). Please refer to the official notification for age relaxation for various categories of candidates.

Important: Those who have defaulted on repayment of loans/credit card dues and/ or have any adverse report of CIBIL or other external agencies will not be eligible for appointment. So also, those who have any adverse reports regarding character & antecedents and moral turpitude are ineligible for the post of Probationary Officer.


The application fee & intimation charges (non-refundable) is as follows:
  1. For SC/ST/PWD candidates: Rs.100/- (Intimation Charges only).

  2. For General, OBC candidates: Rs. 600/- (Application fee including intimation charges).

How to apply

You have to first register at SBI Career page. At this page, check the details of the recruitment in the section of current openings via the 'Join SBI' tab.

Next, pay the requisite application fee through online mode with a debit card/ credit card or via Internet Banking.

Fill in the application form available under 'Current Openings'. Upload the scanned photograph and signature as required. On submission of all the relevant data, you will be issued a provisional registration number and password generated by the system and displayed on your computer screen. Note down this registration number & password. You can use it to edit the data up to 3 times only. On successful completion of the transaction, an e-receipt and application form will be generated. You can take a print out of these for your records. However, do not send the printout to the bank.

Selection process

Candidates have to go through a prelim exam, a main exam and group exercises.

The Preliminary exam is an objective test for 100 marks for one hour, with three sections: English Language (30 questions, 20 minutes): Quantitative Aptitude (35 questions, 20 minutes); Reasoning Ability (35 questions, 20 minutes). There is a penalty for wrong answers. The aggregate marks scored in this exam will form the basis for preparing the merit list, with those at the top of the list being shortlisted for the main exam, the candidates numbering approximately 10 times the numbers of vacancies in each category.

The Main exam comprises of two sections: an objective test for 200 marks and a descriptive test for
50 marks. The objective test is of 3 hours with 4 Sections: Reasoning & Computer Aptitude (45 questions, 60 minutes); Data Analysis & Interpretation (35 questions, 45 minutes); General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness (40 questions, 35 minutes); English Language (35 questions, 40 minutes). There is a penalty for wrong answers. The descriptive test of 30 minutes has two questions for 50 marks. It is a test of English Language which includes Letter Writing & an Essay. Based on the aggregate marks scored in the main exam, a category wise merit list will be prepared. Candidates numbering up to approx. three times of the category wise vacancies will be shortlisted for the Group Exercise and the interview from the top of the merit list.

The third stage of selection consists of Group Exercises (20 marks) and an Interview (30 marks).

A final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the main exam which will be added to the marks obtained in the group exercises and the interview. The results of the final merit list will then be displayed at the official SBI website.

On selection

If you are selected, then you will be given basic knowledge of banking via an online course. You must complete this course before joining your post as an SBI Probationary Officer.

On joining, you must execute a Bond of Rs 2.00 lakhs to serve the Bank for a minimum period of
three years. The Bond will be invoked by the Bank if you resign from the from service before the expiry of the 3 years from the date of joining. On joining, you will be on probation for two years.

  5. Online Preliminary exam: 1st, 7th & 8th of July 2018.

  6. Result of Preliminary exam: 15.07.2018.

  7. Download of Call letter for Online Main Exam: 20.07.2018.

  8. Online Main Exam: 04.08.2018.

  9. Declaration of Main exam results: 20.08.2018.

  10. Download Call Letter for Interview: 01.09.2018.
