IITTM MBA Tourism & Travel Management admissions 2018-20

Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) has announced admissions open for its MBA Tourism & Travel Management course at all its campuses. The course is also offered at The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Amarkantak with an academic collaboration with IITM. Online applications should be submitted by 15th May 2018.


The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Amarkantak, M.P. is a Central Govt.- funded university through UGC (University Grant Commission). IGNTU offers higher education and research facilities mainly for the tribal population of India & equip them with skills to get employment. However, the university is open to all.


Established in 1983, Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) is an autonomous body under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. IITTM aims to provide educational & training programs as well as research facilities & consultancy services relevant to travel & tourism and their related fields. There are four campuses, at Gwalior, Bhubaneswar, Goa, Noida and Nellore. The Wi-Fi enabled campuses each have computer labs, a library, a conference room, sports & gym facilities, hostel mess & a canteen, medical facilities, etc. Limited hostel facilities are also available (see details later in this article in the section on fees).

About the course

The Masters of Business Administration (Tourism & Travel Management) course is a full time two years' course. There are totally 600 seats available. Seats are reserved as follows –
  1. ST: 7.5%.

  2. SC: 15%.

  3. OBC: 27%.

  4. PWD: 3% horizontal reservation.

The course includes formal classroom lectures as well as informative seminars and tutorials. Some of the course modules in the syllabus over the courses of the four semesters will include:
  1. Tourism Concepts.

  2. Principles of Management.

  3. Basics of Accounting & Finance .

  4. Indian History, Society & Culture.

  5. International tourism.

  6. Travel Agency & Tour Operation Business.

  7. Managerial Economics.

  8. Business English & Communication.

  9. Computer & Management Information Systems .

  10. Hospitality, Hotel & Hoteliering.

  11. Destination Planning & Management.

....and lots more!


As part of the course, you have to do General Electives, in which you need to opt for at least two courses from outside the Department, and Open Electives having six electives with three courses under each group.

The General Electives are:
  1. Entrepreneurship and Business Plan Development.

  2. Heritage Conservation & Management.

  3. Aqua-based Adventures.

  4. Business Law & CSR.

  5. Foreign Language – French I & II.

  6. Foreign language – Spanish I & II.

The Open Electives are:
  1. Tour Operation Management.

  2. Event Management.

  3. Logistics Management.

  4. Special Interest Tourism

  5. Cargo Management.

  6. Air fares & Ticketing.

Note: Check the course brochure for the 2018-2020 course for revisions & updates in the course syllabus as these may change each year.

Additionally, there is a study tour, submitting a report on it and a viva-voce, all of which is manadatory. Another compulsory component is a six week or one-and-half months (from June to July) training program in Tourism, Travel & Hospitality Organizations under the guidance of a faculty advisor. Similarly, there will be an on the job training program for 10-weeks or two-and-half months ( from February to April)

Eligibility requirements

  1. Age criteria: You should be maximum 25 years of age as on 1st July, 2018. This is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST/PWD candidates.

  2. Educational qualification: You should have a Bachelor's degree (10+2+3 pattern) in any discipline of a recognized University. You can also apply if you are appearing in final year exam of graduation. In that case, you must submit the result of graduation with the requisite percentage of marks by October 31, 2018.

  3. Management Entrance Test: You should have appeared in any of the following Management Entrance Tests and submit a valid score card dated between 1st May 2017 to 30th April 2018: Management Aptitude Test (MAT); Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by ; CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) conducted by AICTE; XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) conducted by XLRI; GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) conducted by Graduate Management Admission Council; ATMA (AIMS Test for Management Admissions) conducted by AIMS; Appear in the written test 'IGNTU IITTM Admission Test (IIAT)' to be conducted by IGNTU & IITTM.

  4. The admission Test will be held on June 3, 2018 (Sunday) (tentative) from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at all the IITTM centres. This test is an objective type test with 100 questions & four answer options. The 100-marks test will include questions related to General Awareness (50 Marks), Verbal ability (25 Marks) and Quantitative ability (25 marks)]. One mark will be awarded for each right answer but no negative marking will be given for an incorrect answer.

Course fees

The total fee for the four semesters of the course is Rs.3,09,500/-. The breakup is as follows –
  1. Semester 1: Rs. 90,750/-.

  2. Semester 2: Rs. 81,250/-.

  3. Semester 3: Rs. 66,250/-.

  4. Semester 4: Rs. 71,250/-.

Limited hostel facilities are available at the campuses located at Gwalior, Bhubaneswar, Nellore and Noida. The hostel rent varies from Rs. 5,500/- to Rs. 7,500/- per semester, depending upon the type of room. This excludes the caution money deposit and electricity charges. Mess expenses at the hostel is approx. Rs. 3,000/- to Rs. 3,600/- per month.

Note that the fees & hostel rent are subject to revision. Remember to check with the institute for government scholarships.

Selection process

If you are on the list of shortlisted candidates, then you will be called for a Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) at any one of the IITTM centres (you have to select the centre in your admission form). For this, you will need to bring along all the relevant original documents.

Important dates

  • Closing date of application to appear in written test: May 15, 2018.

  • IGNTU IITTM Admission Test (IIAT): 3rd June 2018.

  • GD and PI (at all centers): 18th June to 22nd June 2018.

  • Declaration of Merit List: 29th June 2018.

  • Last date to deposit admission fee: 14th July 2018.

  • Declaration of seat allotment (for waitlisted candidates): 17th July 2018.

  • Academic session begins: 23rd July 2018.

  • Last date to apply for internal transfers from one program/center to another programme/center: 27th July 2018.

  • Communication of decision on transfers cases: 30th July 2018.

  • Completion of MBA (TTM) Central Admission 2018-20: 31st July 2018.
