Best special mathematics learning centres in Chennai

Does your child hate maths? Are you looking for ways to get your child interested in maths? Try these maths training centres in Chennai that can help your child learn to love the subject. The afterschool maths classes provide a good foundation and understanding of maths.

When I was in school, the only thing that I liked about mathematics was that my school had special notebooks for maths. The copies had a column on the right side, where the rough-work could be done (had to be done). Apart, from that, I detested the subject. And, teachers didn't help in making the subject interesting.

Maths, perhaps, still remains the most hated subject. But, things are changing, educators today strive to make mathematics an interesting, and more likeable subject. A few years ago, I came upon a book on Vedic Mathematics that showed simple techniques to solve complicated numerical calculations.

Today, I find a lot of mathematics classes have cropped up that adopt different methodologies to teach maths, in a fun way. Most of these have centres across India, and many are of international acclaim. There are a number of centres operating in Chennai, where maths is taught, using simple, yet fascinating methods.

It is a competitive world and your children need that extra edge if you want them t succeed in life. Entrance into IITs is tough, but a good foundation, in maths, in the formative years can make it easier to crack the JEE.

New methodologies for learning maths

Let me introduce to a few of these methodologies for after-school maths in Chennai –

Kumon is a highly acclaimed and renowned practice of teaching mathematics with its origins in Japan. The teaching method adopted in Kumon classes is different from the conventional practices of teaching maths. There is no fixed syllabus, instead, every student goes through a preliminary assessment to enable the instructors to gauge their aptitude.

Thereafter, a study-plan is specially tailored to match individual maths skills. Normally, students are started at an 'easy starting point' aimed at inculcating a study regime and concentration, and assimilation of fundamental topics. Two 30-minute classes are conducted twice a week, at the Kumon Centre, where children are given worksheets to complete. In addition, children are given 5 assignments, as homework.

Children learn concepts at their own pace, get a good grasp of the new approaches, before learning something new.

Kumon programmes involve worksheets, with the degree of difficulty being increased gradually. However, worksheets are so designed that children master concepts and exhibit a definite improvement in their maths skills.
