Correspondence courses can no doubt be compared with the regular courses but what can be done when one has a regular job and is dependent on the salary he or she gets from it. In that case correspondence courses are of great use.

MBA from IGNOU is a good course and it is not easy to pass if one doesn't study. I know this as I took admission in the same. They send you the tutorials and take exams every six months. At that time there were 21 exams in all out of which I cleared 16 exams in 3 years but then I got married and due to lots of work pressure in my job, I left it.

IGNOU is the best university if one wants to pursue MBA through distance learning compared to other universities. One has to study hard to pursue any degree from it.

Correspondence courses or programmes offered under distance education are indeed helpful, not just for those employed, but also those who are not. A young mother or a homemaker for instance, who cannot attend classroom programmes can benefit from the distance learning programmes. They can enhance their knowledge and skillsets and make themselves employable. IGNOU remains the most recognised open university, but there are others, equally good ones that offer quality education.

The choice of the programme of MBA/ PGDM through distance learning is certainly a boon for those having no time for regular programming in the wake of their regular jobs. Such programmes are equally useful for homemakers or young mothers who are not in a position to attend any courses because of time constraints.

The author has enlisted several platforms with which one can continue the MBA programme such as IGNOU, Narsee Monji Institute of Management, Amity University, Sikkim Manipal University, Symbiosis Institute of distance learning etc. But the basic fallacy that these courses are relatively easy are to be wiped out. As far as IGNOU is concerned, there is the provision of conducting examinations where there is no room for adopting unfair practices but their guidance is equally invaluable in the sense that the printed material provided to aspirants are of superior standards. Moreover, they conduct doubt-removal sessions to wipe out the confusion of the candidates in the related subject - matters. Hence a sincere approach would be needed to complete the course.

The author has incorporated several prominent institutes leading to MBA degrees and it should prove to be a valuable guide to the serious aspirants.

Sheo Shankar,

I agree with you. Yes, there is this belief that correspondence courses are inferior when compared to regular classroom programmes. The fact is that many people enrolling in distance learning courses do not take the programme seriously. In the sense that, they look at the course as a way to add a qualification on their CV.

The truth is that these courses can further one's career if taken seriously. The study-material provided is extensive, and contact classes that are scheduled periodically are also helpful.

Once one enrols in a correspondence course, they should complete it with utmost seriousness. There is a lot that can be learned through distance learning programmes. The good thing is that they are approved by competent agencies.
