Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas online admissions for Class IX 2019-2020 vacant seats

Navodya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), which is under the aegis the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of School Education & Literacy, Government of India, has issued the admission notification for Class IX against vacant seats in Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas for the academic session 2019-2020.

The online applications for the admission process will begin on 15th October and will conclude on 30th November 2018. The Admission Test for the seats has been scheduled for 2nd February 2019.

Features of JNV schools

Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas (referred to as JNVs) are all co-educational schools with separate residential accommodation for boys and girls provided on the school campus. There are over 60 JNVs in India, in every district, other than in the State of Tamil Nadu. Students actively participate in co-curricular activities, including sports and games, yoga, Scouts & Guides and NCC & NSS (National Service Scheme). NCC activities include training in rifle shooting and camping, wherein the learn mountaineering and rock climbing skills, swimming, etc. Over 500 schools have multi-gym facilities to develop the students' fitness. Funds have also been provided to many JNVs to set up and maintain museums for showcasing the indigenous cultural and social aspects of the region for the JNV is located. Students acquire basic computer proficiency as well with one computer for every eight students.

The Adolescence Education Programme(AEP) has been launched in JNVs in 2005. It offers education in life skills and gender equality and develops leadership and problem-solving skills. A special feature of JNVs is the provision for a student of one JNV in a particular linguistic region to be able to study for one year in another JNV in a different linguistic region. This encourages a wide cultural exchange through gaining an insight into varied cultural traditions.



In terms of academic results, students of Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas done quite well in Class X and Class XII exams as well as in reputed entrance tests. As per the statistical data issued by NVS, the school average in Class X is 75.12% and in Class XII it is 74.20%. Also, there has been a success rate of 37.4% in JEE (Main) in 2018 and 84.5% of students qualified in NEET-2018.

Meritorious students who fulfil the relevant criteria can earn a scholarship to study abroad to pursue the International Baccalaureate Diploma at Hastings College of Art & Technology. This scholarship is offered by Pestalozzi International Village, a charity in England.

JNV school fees

Free education, Board and lodging is provided at JNVs. However a nominal fee of Rs. 600/- per month has to be paid by students of Classes IX to XII. For the wards of Government employees, the fee is Rs.1500/- per month. There is no fee for students belonging to SC/ST categories and girls and boys whose family income is below the poverty line (BPL).

Eligibility requirements for Class IX JNV admission

  1. You should be a student of Class VIII in the academic session 2018-2019 in a Government school or a Government-recognized school in the same district where the JNV to which you seek admission is functioning.
  2. You must pass Class VIII in the academic session 2018-19 from a Government school or a Government-recognized school in the district where you are seeking admission.
  3. Age criteria : You should be born between 1st May 2003 and 30th April 2007 (both days inclusive.) This is applicable to all categories of candidates, including those who belong to the SC/ST categories.

  4. Note: If required, NVS may refer a candidate to a Medical Board to confirm the age in case a doubt arises about the age on the basis of the certificate produced by the candidate prior to giving admission to a JNV.

Selection test for admission

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) is designed and conducted by the CBSE. The Centre of the Test is the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the respective district/ any other centre allotted by NVS.

The test is an objective/descriptive type of three hours' duration with no breaks. For the objective section, you have to answer in an Optical Mark Recognition sheet (known as OMR sheet.) The medium of language is English and Hindi. An additional time of 30 minutes will be given to students with special needs (Divyang candidates), in which case these candidates must produce the requisite certificates from the competent authority.

Subjects for the test are English (15 marks), Hindi (15 marks), Mathematics (35 marks) and General Science (35 marks). The difficulty level of the test paper is of Class VIII. Once the results are declared, it will be displayed on the JNV notice board as well as at the official JNV website. If selected, you will receive a postal intimation of the selection. The merit list will be announced as per the NVS selection criteria. However, the marks obtained in the test will not be communicated. There is also no provision for re-checking or for re-totalling of the marks.



After results

You will be considered for admission only into the Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya for which you had appeared for the selection test. At the same time, the selection in the test will not guarantee admission into the JNV till you have produced all the relevant certificates as prescribed by NVS for the admission. This includes the birth certificate, the pass certificate of VIII class with mark sheets and SC/ST certificate (if applicable). Misplaced your birth certificate? If you are applying under the category of Scheduled Caste (SC) or Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Other Backward Classes (OBC), then you will need to produce the relevant Scheduled Caste/Tribe or OBC Certificate issued by a competent authority.
