Introduction The Institution of Engineers (India), IEI, started its journey in 1920 as a professional body consisting of Engineers of various domains to oversee the technical progress and also as a watchdog of the quality of manufactured products. In 1928 the institution started to provide Engineering education and it received The Royal Charter in 1935. The Institution conducts examinations, known as AMIE, in 10 Engineering disciplines and successful completion of the AMIE examination is equivalent to the Engineering degrees offered by different Engineering colleges throughout India. The qualification is accepted for employment in all government agencies and is famous in private sector too. IEI is recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by the Ministry of Science and Technology and plays a significant role in research and promotion of Engineering advancements.
Courses offered by IEI The institution is offering its certificate, which is equivalent to an Engineering degree, after successful completion of both the Section A and Section B examinations in the following 10 Engineering disciplines.
Headquartered in Kolkata, the IEI has 70 examination centers in India and abroad and candidates can choose the center according to their suitability.

Things to rememberThe examination is conducted pan-India basis and the pass percentage is comparatively low because many professionals are writing the examination along with students. Though the study materials are provided by the institution, the candidates should follow the reference books of respective papers to have a better understanding on the subjects. The classes of different subjects are conducted at the study centers depending on the number of students registered for coaching and the candidate should be in touch with the respective center to know more about the conduction of different classes.
This initiative taken by the Ministry of Science and Technology to upgrade the technical skill for such aspirants wishing to have an engineering degree equivalent to BE in different streams is possible with the able guidance of the institution. This institution provides excellent study material apart from running coaching centres in different cities for the benefit of aspirants.
