9 best water parks to visit in Hyderabad during Christmas


Who doesn't love to splash or slide down a pool of water? Hyderabad is one fun place to have a rollicking time by visiting one of the numerous water parks dotting the city. With Christmas and New Year approaching this is one good time to visit them. Learn here about these popular watering holes.

Everyone knows Hyderabad is famous for its Charminar, palaces, biryanis, pearls and a whole sort of other wonders. What many do not know is the numerous water parks that dot the city and its surroundings. Some of them double up as amusement parks, as they have dry rides like the roller coaster, Ferris wheel, striking cars and a lot more to make it a more wholesome entertainment for the entire family or group of friends.

Water parks are perfect places for an outing on weekends and holidays. It is more the better if it is a special occasion like Christmas. Christmas and New Year holidays are the best time to visit these amusement parks. Blessed with a mild winter, Hyderabad has a very pleasant climate at this time of the year. The weather is just perfect to have an outing or a picnic and have a splash into the pools of one of these water parks. The sun is a shade cooler and definitely not scorching hot as in the summer months. It is not just residents of Hyderabad that crowd these parks, but tourists coming from distant cities and towns too set their feet and have a whale of a time. With so many water parks to choose from, there is enough variety for you to decide which one suits you best. Whichever you select, it is guaranteed to provide you with the best of enjoyment and fun.

To help you with the choices, the most popular ones have been described here. You will learn about their special features, ticket pricing, location, timing, dress codes, etc. In all the water parks, it is mandatory to wear only synthetic or nylon clothing while getting into the water. Cotton cloths, sarees, salwar, kurtas, jeans, formal pants, shirts, cargoes and burqas are a strict no-no. One has to be dressed in swimming trunks, swimsuits or other synthetic wears. You can hire the clothing if you do not have one. Some parks have facilities for lockers. Public utilities like changing rooms and washrooms are freely available. The timings are quite similar. Most of them open by 11 AM and close by 6 PM. Each one has food courts inside. Outside food is not allowed. Water slides, wave pools and rain dance are common to all. Some of the parks, especially the big ones, like Wonderla and Mount Opera Theme Park have many dry rides thrown in too, along with some adventure activities.

  1. Wonderla

    Wonderla is the most popular and most extravagant water cum amusement park in Hyderabad. Located in the outskirts of the city, it is one of the most exciting and amazing places to be in during the Christmas vacation. Apart from the water chutes, rides, rain disco and wave pool, there are a number of non-water rides that provide you with the most wholesome of entertainment. Add to it the variety of restaurants inside the complex that take care of your food needs. Unique and the most prized ride is the roller coaster or the recoil that is a wonder in itself. Few amusement parks in India will match the one available here. Other sports include striking cars, equinox, space jam, boomerang and so on. Synthetic clothing can be purchased from stores inside the park. Open from 11 AM to 6 PM.

    During the normal season, ticket prices range from rupees 635 plus GST for children and 815 plus GST for adults during weekdays. There is a discount for senior citizens and defence personnel. On weekends tickets cost rupees 1015 plus GST for adults. During peak season that is during Christmas holidays, costs are even more, costing 1060 plus GST for an adult ticket.

    Located on the outer ring road near to exit no. 13, it can be easily reached by hired or private transport.
  2. Ocean Park

    Ocean Park is one of the first few theme parks in Hyderabad. Located in the outskirts, it has two sections. One is for enjoying the wide range of water sports and the other one the amusement section with a whole range of dry rides. The prices here are reasonable, with tickets priced at rupees 400. There are discounts for children as well as school and college students. Spending the day there will be fun and an adventurous way to pass your time.

    Located near to CBIT College on Shankarpalli Road in Gandipet, the park can be reached by bus, cabs or private vehicles.

  3. Jalavihar

    Jalavihar is one of the prime places to visit in Hyderabad. It is located within the city perimeters besides the famous Hussain Sagar Lake. It has a good number of water rides including the wave pool, which many consider as India's largest. Rain dance is a regular feature here and is very much popular with the visitors, both young and old. Then there are the food courts and the gaming zone to enthral you with more fun. The tickets here are very reasonably priced, around rupees 350 for adults and 250 for kids. Lifeguards are present to prevent untoward incidents from happening. The park has two zones, the entertainment zone and the party zone. Lockers are available on rent. You may even hire clothing if you do not have nylon or synthetic clothing with you.

    Located at 22/9 necklace road in the centre of the city, one can very easily reach the place by taking the MMTS up to Khairatabad station and then take an auto. Alternatively, one may take a bus, get down at NTR garden and walk down the necklace road.

  4. Mount Opera Multi Theme Park

    Among all the water cum amusement parks located in and around Hyderabad, the Mount Opera is the biggest. As the name suggests it is a multi-theme park. The park is located on a hilltop and has an assortment of rides, both water as well as the dry kind. To add to the fun and excitement, other than water rides, wave pools, rain dance and boating, there is the Ferris wheel, skating rink, merry-go-round, go-karting, toy train, merry cups and a lot more. There is just an endless number of joy rides for you to have a great time here at Mount Opera.

    To top it all, there are facilities like indoor sports such as carom, table tennis and billiards. There is a gym too. A whole assortment of food is available in its food courts and a coffee shop too. Ticket prices are reasonable. An adult ticket costs rupees 470. Like other parks, tickets for children cost somewhat less. It also has facilities for business meetings, seminars, cottages and suites to stay.

    Located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Mount Opera is very close to the famous Ramoji Film City on the Hyderabad- Vijayawada expressway. It is accessible through public as well as private transport.

  5. Escape Water and Adventure park

    Located near to the Shamshabad airport, Escape Water Park is a popular destination for those seeking a day full of fun. There is a multitude of water rides available here for all ages. Locker and baggage facilities are available. There is a food court offering you a variety of dishes. Dress code is there as in other water parks. Just like most, the park remains open from 11 AM to 6 PM.

    Ticket costs are rupees 590 for adults and 490 for children within 90 to 120 cm in height. For children less than 90 cm in height, free entry. Some of the rides are to be paid separately.

    The park can be best reached by taking the outer ring road or the PVNR expressway.

  6. Leonia Splash

    Located within the premises of Leonia Resorts, this is another famous amusement park located within the city limits of Hyderabad. Just like the other water parks, it has an array of water sports to indulge in. Dress code is mandatory. Tickets are priced at rupees 599 and are worth every rupee spent. Timing is from 9 AM to 6 PM. The unique thing about this resort is its amazing nightlife. The resort remains open until 10:30 in the night. However, you need to pay separately.

    Located in Kachiguda, around 8 km from Nehru Zoological Park, it can be reached by private as well as public transport.

  7. Wild Waters

    Spread over a lavish 30 acres of land at Shankarpalli, Wild Waters is a big water park located in the outskirts of the city. It has a range of rides and activities that are fun as well as adventurous. There are dry rides thrown in too. Many of the water rides are of the adventurous kind and some even scary.

    The tickets here are a bit pricey. On weekdays it is rupees 670/- plus taxes for an adult and on weekend it climbs up to 754/- plus taxes. However, the money spent is worth every rupee, considering the amount of fun and thrill that you get on its numerous rides and activities.

    Located at survey no. 125, Masaniguda at Shankarpally, the theme park is located around 50 km away from the main city centre. It can be reached mostly by cabs or private vehicles.

  8. Dream Valley Water Park

    As part of Dream Valley Resorts, Dream Valley Water Park is one fun place to have a perfect outing with your family and friends. You can buy special packages that include access to the park, food, drinks and an Olympic sized swimming pool. Just like everywhere else, there are the rain dance, splash pads, slides and other water activities to get entertained. There are also special facilities for corporate visitors and large groups. There are cottages and farmhouses for an overnight stay. Entry tickets are priced at rupees 1000 plus for adults and 800 plus for children. The prices are a bit on the higher side considering that the package includes food and drinks too.

    The water park is located at Vikarabad road before Chilkur crossroads at Nazeebnagar and is around an hours drive from the main city.

  9. Alankrita Water Park

    Situated far from the maddening crowd of the city is Alankrita Water Park. It is a resort where families and large groups can have a perfect outing or gathering. Packages can be bought that include entry to the park as well as access to the swimming pool and some indoor games. Group packages are also there. The resort is having four-star facilities with plenty of entertainment and activities. The park is quite popular with visitors celebrating their reunions and get-togethers.
