# How to make your kid start liking maths?

I have observed that kids normally don't like doing maths as they find it tough to solve the numerical. Arithmetic, algebra, geometry are few of topics which are tough to learn but if they are understood well then they become easy and interesting for kids to learn. Here are a few tricks which when applied can make maths easy to learn for your kids.

### Introduction

Most of us are frightened of Maths as a subject because it needs lots of practice and labor. Unlike other subjects, one has to have good basics to have an inclination for the subject. So, as a parent, it is our responsibility to make maths doesn't look like a monster when our kid opens a mathematics book. Teach them how we can use maths in our day to day activities like in shopping or counting money so that they may understand the basic maths and its application. And if you are not convinced then here are a few ways how your kid may fall in love with maths.

### Inculcate logical thinking

Maths is not just solving numerical or equations. It is about reaching the conclusion by applying logic. Therefore expose your child more to logic rather than solving the numbers. The best way to do this is by asking your kid to solve the riddles so that they may solve them by applying the logic. Don't aim for perfection and also don't check if the kid has done the problem wrong or right, check how he or she arrived at the answer. What logic was applied by the kid?

### Focus more on games based on maths

Mathematically designed games are fun to play. It makes your child think more logically. These games will give your child an opportunity to think something different from academically. There are lots of such games available on the internet. These games are also helpful for the mental growth of a kid. We must inculcate the habit of playing such games to our kids.

### Encourage problem-solving approach

If your kid asks a mathematical question then don't tell him the answer of it straight away but ask him to solve it in front of you and helps him to solve the problem. That way the kid will know the solution as well as it will increase his interest in solving problems. In the beginning, the kid will surely do the mistakes but that's for sure it will reduce the fear for the subject and will boost the confidence of solving the mathematical problems of his own.

### Fix a time for maths show and videos

Encourage your kids to watch the maths show on television or on the internet, that way they will not take maths as a burden but will learn to solve problems with interest. You can find creative videos regarding solving mathematical problems with music. Kids don't learn things when they think it to be a burden for them but once they generate interest they don't feel it a burden.

You can encourage your kids to read such books so that they enhance their problem-solving skills. Ask your kids to solve the problems by themselves by referring to the clues. Even if he is not able to solve it, then show him the solution so that he may solve the same problem if he comes across again.

### Ask him to count money

Give pocket money to your kid so that he may deal with the basic addition and deduction. Pocket money may not be huge but just a way to teach your kid the basic calculations. The important lesson is to teach him to how to calculate the money he needs to pay for things, decide if he has enough, how much money he has to take back from the vendor after paying.

### Introduce him to a Maths lover

If you are not good at maths then introduce someone who is good in maths. The person may be your neighbor, friend. Your kid may find this subject hard if he doesn't see anyone around him doing it. Once he sees someone having an interest in it, there are chances that he may also show his interest in it.

### Conclusion

This tips may be helpful for your kid but don't expect he will straightway show interest in the subject. It may take time for him not to think maths as a burden and don't scare of this subject.

Fear of succeeding at maths is quite common in kids. When they repeatedly fail to fare well in the exams, they start losing interest in the subject and even stop trying at it. Author has chosen a very good topic for his article and given some interesting tips on how to help kids learn mathematics easily.

As parents or guardians, it is always necessary to know that early learning matters a lot. Same is applicable for maths too. Don't delay by hoping that kids will eventually learn the subject at some age. As adults, it would be best to give early lessons so that a strong base gets developed. While they are still in kindergarten, help them to count the numbers and determine patterns and shapes. Make the subject meaningful and interesting and not just a plain task.

Help them understand how maths exists in the real world. While in grocery stores ask them to compare the prices of two products or just ask them to check the retail price mentioned on the product that you are purchasing. While taking a walk, ask them to count the trees or shops that you pass by. These kinds of early lessons establish the love for maths in them at a very early age.

Don't introduce the subject in a negative manner to them. We might have not liked the subject when we were young but that in no way means that we should talk negative and refer to how difficult it is every time we talk about it. As parents, if we present the subject as difficult, tiring or not so important, then kids are going to set the same mind frame.

Never ever encourage your kids to memorize the subject. Help them to develop strong number sense rather than making them learn quick fixes such as simple tricks or asking them to memorize the problems. Never ever force your strategies on kids. Let them learn at their own pace. Adopt various ways to get to the point instead of focusing on just one way.

Mathematics is always labelled as a tough subject by almost everybody. This belief is carried over from generation to generation. Naturally, a child develops this mentality towards the subject. But if the subject is introduced in a natural way, things will change. In fact, arithmetics form the basis of mathematics. A number is introduced as the basis of arithmetics. The four operations are introduced slowly. These constitute the fundamentals of arithmetics. This can be introduced easily with examples taken from day to day activities. Very often children will be playing different forms of games. In most of them, numbers will have certain roles. One can make use of such games and its rules to educate numerical problems.
Next step will be shapes, such as triangles, rectangles, squares and circles. Here also the things around one's life will make it easy to understand the concepts. Like this, slowly introduce the mathematical principles citing examples and models from life.
Once these basic concepts are clear the next step will be easy for most of the students. Doing practical problems also play an important role in learning the subject. In fact, there is no other subject which has this much of practical applications. A day is starting with looking into the time, maybe 6.30 in the morning. Then the rest of the activities of the day is based on a time table. Hour, minute, second, day, etc are connected and calculated using numbers. Similarly, the shapes (geometry) are directly connected with life. Make use of these connections to understand the subject easily.
